Reviewed By SoodfamI had a "guaranteed reservation" at Motel Cartier for 1 night, Sun. Oct. 3rd, that I booked through Hotels.com. I've never had an issue with this booking company and I've never stayed at this motel before. I planned to stay there with my 2 daughters on our way home to southern New Brunswick from Montreal. We recognized that check-in is 4:00-9:00 p.m., and that there is no availability for late check-in. We arrived at the motel at 7:30 p.m. and decided to eat at the adjoining restaurant (St. Hubert) for a quick bite before checking in. As the motel reception counter shares the restaurant foyer, I left my daughters in the restaurant to go check-in. It was 8:17 p.m. I couldn't believe that the receptionist stated that our reservation was cancelled and our room was given to someone else!?! I am bilingual and yet had to have the Francophone receptionist repeat what she had said, due to my disbelief! They gave our room away. It was not past check-in time. I felt sick. She explained that she had tried to contact me via my mobile phone and got no response. I do not have my phone on when I'm driving, nor did I think that my "guaranteed reservation" would be in jeopardy. I have travelled to over 30 countries, and I've never had this occur before. We had chosen this motel for a variety of reasons: it was conveniently located along our route; the room that had been booked days prior, was going to be perfect with 3 double beds; and a relatively good price compared to other local hotels/motels. The receptionist offered to check other hotels/motels for availability for us. By then I was so thoroughly disappointed in how we were treated, I wanted nothing more to do with this motel or receptionist. Despite the fatigue, my daughter's and I chose to drive the additional 4.5 hours to arrive home. I will never book this motel again.

The motel offers both motel rooms and cabins, each with their own little deck. The room had everything we needed, soap, shampoo, lots of towels, wifi, tv, fridge, coffee maker, cups, mugs, room to sit inside and outside, and extra towels and blankets. Perfect roadside motel with the perfect staff and location.

Beautiful spot with an exceptional view on the river. Most beautiful sunsets in the world. Excellent service. Many excellent restaurants nearby (walking distance). Near downtown.

Reviewed By StaceySztricskoAbsolutely disgusting customer service. My family and I booked a road trip from Ontario to New Brunswick and booked this motel for our half way point. He already took the payment off our credit card. We show up after 15 hours of driving only to find out the owner sold our room to someone else, even after taking our booking and payment. We tried calling the emergencies after hours line to have this sorted out and the owner was no help. He said we were lying, that we had no booking and that his motel was full. We have proof of the time and day we called and made the reservation AND he already charged our credit card $177 for the room. We are now stranded 15 hours from home at 12:30 at night with nowhere to go or sleep. Every motel and hotel is sold out from here to New Brunswick. This place is an absolute disgrace. We will be sure to spread the word about this incident. The owner very clearly sold the room to another person and is lying to cover up his mistake. He also claims he never charged our credit card despite our proof which we offered to show him. My family does this road trip annually and we will be sure to never do business here again.

Reviewed By beauguinThis was a one night stop on our way home from the Gaspé and it was a great choice. Close to restaurants and nice waterfront park with walking path and picnic tables. The view from balconies is outstanding and we saw a family of belugas playing. Breakfast is well worth the money also.
