Amherstburg (2016 population 21,936; UA population 13,910) is a town near the mouth of the Detroit River in Essex County, Ontario, Canada. In 1796, Fort Malden was established here, stimulating growth in the settlement. The fort has been designated as a National Historic Site.

Get an ice cream cone across the street and enjoy a stroll thru history, beautiful flowers and along the river. A variety of flowers are always in bloom and you'll meet many other people enjoying a walk on any evening.

Fort Malden National Historic Site

We almost felt guilty as it was only just over $3 to get in. The staff are so pleased to teach you all about the history of this fort and how life was back in the 1800's Everyone is in costume and living as they would have back then. Great place to visit.

Built around 1816 after the War of 1812 by Robert Reynolds, the Deputy Assistant Commissary General at Fort Malden,and home of his sisters, Margaret and Catherine Reynolds whose landscape paintings provide an invaluable record of early 19th century life in Upper Canada. Designated a NHS in 1959, it is one of two buildings in Canada designated for its Palladian style architecture. Drive by only.
