Pingle Ancient Town

Reviewed By Feistygal - Chevy Chase, Maryland

Pingle is written up as a great destination, but I was underwhelmed. There were no interesting buildings that I saw--just one-storey functional structures that had been turned into shops and restaurants.
But the good news is that the river is lovely. I visited on a cool spring day, but in the summer it would be great to go wading and rafting on the river. There are lots of teahouses and restaurants overlooking the river, so the view enhances the food and the tea.
The shops all seem to carry the same tourist goods--candy, sauces, children's toys, t-shirts, the usual. I left Pingle earlier than expected (which wasn't all bad because the traffic in Chengdu nearly doubled the total time of the bus trip that was scheduled for two hours.

First of all - I strongly reccomend you to buy also the bus ticket, when buying the entrance ticket (at the place where buses from Qionglai and Chengdu drop you off), because it's really far from there to the entrance, and if you have only one day there, it's impossible to see almost anything wthout using the bus.
We walked from the main gate 山门 to the road near by 乐安 (almost 2-3 hour walk) and from there we took a bus(it costs more if you don't buy the bus ticket at the entrance) to the furthes spot, where the buses take you 正天台. There are loads of annoying people trying to persuade you to eat at their restaurant...
We wanted to see some of the top Waterfalls, but when we got there, we found out we would have to pay another 15 yuan (one way) to get over a lake...so we decided not to do that... So we wanted to walk down, but noone was able to help us to find the path for tourists, so we walked on the road...quite annoying...
So to sum up - it was pretty, but I there are (in Sichuan) other beautiful places where you don't have to pay an entrance fee...

Jinji Valley

Close to Pingle Old town, most people go there by tuk-tuk who will take you there and back to the town / another place. We managed to have a local tuk-tuk driver taking us to bamboo forest, Jinhua moutain, the bridge and back in town for 160¥ (+tips). You can ask your hotel, this is a small town, they all have friends who can make you a good price
So the valley... Well, this could be a really nice walk if there were less people... The bridge itself is quite impressive, and the scenrey is nice. The stairs to climb are sometimes a little hard, not recommended for small kids.
There is a river at the entrance of the place where kids can play in the river, and where you can ride some kind of boat. Also whe' i went there (may 2017), it seems that the park was still on renovation, there will be soon more activities to do.
Anyway I dont suggest you go there, nothing that interesting if too crowded (but take in account i went there in May and during a week end). I suggest you go to Jinhua moutain 金华佛山 instead, less people, also beautiful scenery, with bamboo forest and some buddhas on the rock in addition.

Qionglai Zhuxi Lake

You have to take a taxi to get here, but it's nice place to spend few hours.
If you take the boat (2yuan) across the lake, you'll get to see really nice carvings and a temple. It's really worth spending those extra 2 yuan, because that's the best part of this place.

The worst part is the fact, that they have there 3 monkeys in cages...It rains on the monkeys, the monkeys can't sit anywhere else but on the bars...they looked quite miserable.
The entrance fee is 15yuan (no student ticket).

Zhaigou Bamboo

Reviewed By BobBonHere - Lytham St Anne's, United Kingdom

This delightful walk starts around 10 mins out of Pringle Ancient Town which we travelled by motorised golf cart. After walking across the river on stepping stones and a bridge we paid and had a lovely, steadily uphill walk through the bamboo forest for around 30 minutes until we climbed up a short, very steep section to reach the suspension bridge across the valley. The views were superb and well worth the effort. The return journey on the other side of the valley was steadily downhill towards the entrance. This was probably one of the best walks I've ever done.

Wenjun well

Reviewed By RenataM893 - Prague, Czech Republic

Wenjun well is in a park called Wenjun Gongyuan. Wenjun was a wife of a famous poet Sima Xiangru and they used to make wine from water from this well. In the park there is a little lake, various trees, bamboo, teahouse and nice pavilions.
There is no entrance fee and in the park there is a little exhibition (even with English descriptions).
Right next to this park is a really nice hotel.

Red Army Long March Memorial

Reviewed By KodoDrummer - Yekaterinburg, Russia

The Red Army crossed the Jinsha River at Qiaoqiao. At Jiaopingdu, the Red Army soldiers were bombarded by enemy planes. The water was strong. After seven days, nine small boats were used to cross the river, and the enemy encirclement was thrown away. The memorials in the area recognize the great hardships and sacrifices made.
My photos include the caves along the cliffs and close to the Jinsha River where Red Army members lived in hiding. The 8th cave is where Chairman Mao lived, and the 9th cave is where Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, and Liu Bo were staying.
Also included in my photos, are the displays of Red Army Slogans sang on the Long March Road.

Huazhi Temple

Reviewed By RenataM893 - Prague, Czech Republic

It is a nice temple in the Zhuxi Hu 竹溪湖 area, just take the boat for 2 yuan and walk up the stairs. First you'll pass cliff carvings and then you'll see it.
It's really calm there. Just go through the temple, climb up the stairs and there is a bright red temple...behind that temple is another temple (which looks like it's gonna fall down soon), but I think it's the best one, because it has some special atmosphere...
