Saksa

The views over the fjords and Mountains in the Sunnmore Alps are spectacular.   Season Jun-Oct.   Duration 2-3 hours. Distance and total height gain: 3 km. 3,520 ft.   Access Bus www.fjord1.no or car/ferry in the direction of Saebo. Take the ferry without the car to Leknes, or take the car with you to Urke.    Worth noting The tour down from the southern peak and through a narrow gorge between the south peak and the middle peak may be regarded as demanding with some moderate climbing. The view is best from the southern peak in any case.

From the town you can see the stairs...all 418 steps. You get to them by walking through this really nice park. It is steep if you are afraid of heights...but worth the hike up and it was very crowded. But you can take your time and stop along the way, there some seats along the way up. We noticed some took the little train which takes you to the top and can spend some time before you take the train again. But if you are able to walk up the stairs you should...its worth it!

The Ivar Aasen Centre

THE IVAR AASEN CENTRE, with its special focus on language and literature and its unique architecture guarantees you a wealth of memorable experiences while you are here and plenty of food for thought after your visit. Opened in 2000, the main building was designed by the Norwegian master architect Sverre Fehn and boasts the most prestigious architectural award that Norway has to offer. THE INTERACTIVE DISPLAYS AND EXHIBITS have so much for visitors to see and do - time will simply fly by! Every single day, they present something new about the languages of the world and from the current debate on the language situation in Norway. IVAR AASEN (1813-96) was the language researcher and writer who changed the course of Norwegian history. He created New Norwegian, a written language based on living dialects all over the country, and some of Norway's best loved songs came from his pen. The CAFETERIA offers you tasty meals and snacks and the chance to browse through the day's news in papers from many parts of Norway. The GIFT SHOP contains hundreds of articles and gifts, many of which are exclusive to the Centre, at a wide range of prices. GUIDED TOURS are organised every hour throughout the summer season, or as and when the need arises. Every Tuesday and Friday their friendly farm cat Lurivar will take children on a tour designed especially for them.

This is a museum celebrating and telling the history of Ivar Aasen, the founder of one of the two versions of written Norwegian. If history or literature does not interest, the building itself is a masterpiece, designed by celebrated Norwegian architect Sverre Fehn. A little dry but worth a visit, for both of the above reasons.

Volda Ski Centre

Volda alpine Centre has two lifts - one large and one for the family. The family slope and the main slope both have flood lighting. Well equipped with snow clearing and tracing equipment, snow scooters and 4-wheel terrain cars. Safety is of high importance, and the electronic ticket system is up to date - covering both lifts. 3,5 kms of lighted slope, as well as several prepared slopes in connection with the ski centre. In the heating calefactory you can buy food and drinks. Home made pizza and freshly baked svele are some of the temptations on their menu. Parking conditions are good, and a new road to the ski centre from Helgatun up to Reset was finished 2004/2005. New lift for children and families, prolonged cross country slopes and stadion. Welcome!

Kjempefin utsikt over Sunnmørsalpane og Ørsta.

Ring 48 12 46 46 for observasjonstid. Velkommen."

Hellevegen

Reviewed By NathalieRei - Volda, Norway

Hans I. Brekke (1868-1943) bygde denne vegen. Hans var frå Nergarden på Brekke, gnr. 19, bnr. 1.

Kantine like utanfor inngangen.
