Nova Lima is a municipality of about 87,000 people, whose downtown is located about 20 kilometers of Belo Horizonte, the capital of the south-eastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Mining is one of the main economical activities of the city, including the extraction of Iron Ore and Gold. The most famous mine in the city is Morro Velho (Old Hill), a gold mine of 2,700 metres (8,900 ft) depth.

...hot, crowded and difficult to find a parking place. Nothing extraordinary. If you like markets, just take a little extra patience with you... The people are kind and like to help. But I guess I'm over with such places...

Was returning from visiting the Inhotim museum, and by chance we pass trough this amazing park. Hidden in Brumadinho (MG), this park has an amazing view of the Mountains of Minas Gerais state. the road inside the park is very dangerous, specially in the rain, but view more then makes up for it. I highly recommend a visit.

Best attraction in Sabará. It's a very small chapell a little outside (a tourist shouldn't walk up to place, but it's a nice walk if the person is used to walking). Likely to be closed or under maintenance.

The plaza has a very nice, open park, with Fountains, statues etc, as well as an impressive, palm tree lined walkway. It's a nice spot to relax and people watch, but as it's surrounded by some of the most impressive architecture in Belo Horizonte, as well as the best museums, this is a must see part of the city.

Defined as an EXPERIENCE MUSEUM, Memorial Minas Gerais Vale brings the soul and traditions of Minas Gerais in an original and interactive way. Actual and virtual scenarios mix up to create experiences and sensations that take visitors from the 18th century to the 21st century. Far from giving visibility only to the historical record, the Memorial puts present and past in direct contact, thus promoting other forms of bringing visitors closer to issues present throughout our times. Opened in 2010, the building where Memorial Vale is located formally headquartered the Minas Gerais Treasury Department. The historical building dates back to 1897 and is the place where Belo Horizonte's foundation stone was set. The construction is listed by the Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute of Minas Gerais - IEPHA/MG. The Memorial was created and is maintained by Vale through its Foundation, and is part of the Praca da Liberdade Cultural Circuit. Visitation is open to everyone, free of charge Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday: from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with doors open until 6 p.m. Thursday: from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with doors open until 10 p.m. Sunday: from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with doors open until 4 p.m.
I have to say that I have traveled a lot and visited a lot of museums this one I can certify is a great choice! The best attractions are the opportunity to 'revive' a theater in their 1800 and sit in a room in the middle of a debate about inconfidencia mineira

Sundely you find a great exposition in this place, other time you find some new interesting artist, but, most of the time, you don´t find such interesting things. Better check in the site (it it is updated) to see if you find something worthy to see.

Daily 7am-7pm (Tue 7am-6pm)
The church is in the middle of renovations at the moment with a planned finish date of Dec 2013. Lots of scaffolding make it difficult to see all the ceiling and wall paintings. What can be seen thought looks very good, when it has been finished it will be well with a visit.
3 stars now, but 4 when it has been finished

Palácio das Arts is the venue in the state of Minas Gerais: famous operas, best plays, famous singers, whatever. One of the most modern building in the capital of the state, located in a beautiful downtown park in the main avenue. When in Belo Horizonte, it is a must!

In the city center of Belo Horizonte, in the old Central Station, you will find one of the most importants Brazilian museums: the Arts and Labor Museum. The exhibition rooms are located in two beautiful restored historical buildings and present a collection of more than 2,500 pieces dedicated to the world of labor in the country, especially for pre-industrial period. The train and metro platforms that go through the museum buildings are still active and that integrates the new institution to the daily life of the city. OPENING HOURS Tuesday: From 9 a.m to 9 p.m Wednesday to Sunday: From 9 a.m to 5 p.m
It was a rainy day in Belo Horizonte so I decided to visit the Museum of Arts and Crafts. Admission is free on Saturdays but they close at 5PM - The museum is full of extremely interesting artifacts created by man for specific purposes, most of the practical, as well as many artistic forms and photographs. The collection is divided in two buildings A and B with B having the largest number of exhibits. It will take a couple hours to view the entire collection and it is well worth your time. The Metro line crosses right through the buildings, but building B can be accessed thru a tunnel. The collection has items about woodworking, mining, ceramics, leather, gem cutting and goldsmithery, yarn and textiles, energy, fire, commerce, etc. Plenty to see and helpful staff to answer any of your questions. There's also a small Café on the first floor right by the entrance where you can enjoy refreshments and a snack.
