A bitterly cold night in Amsterdam we found a warm and welcoming restaurant full of character. The decor is simple and elegant and the building is left to speak for itself. We chose the five course tasting menu at €62.50 (another €40 euros for the five glass wine flight which we didn’t take). Young chef JimVan Der Hoff has produced an imaginative menu full of wonderful flavour combinations using the best local produce. It was difficult to pick a stand out course as each was equally inventive and flavoursome but the scallop in champagne sauce with cauliflower and the local dry aged sirloin steak were outstanding as was the dessert which featured blood orange and mocha flavours. I hope the first Michelin Star is not far away.

What a positive surprise! While I expected an old fashioned, stuffy mediocre restaurant (certainly after the loss of their Michelin star more than a year ago) the opposite was true: the different dishes were of the highest quality, the food refined and traditional and the presentation perfect. Add to that the good service, nice setting and the high-energy, knowledgeable and entertaining sommelier and you have a winner ...
Tip: reserve a table at the window overlooking the canals!

Our group found the quality and flavour of the food outstanding. The service was also excellent - attentive, polite and everything was clearly explained.
We chose their traditional ( non vegetarian ) menu option with the additional wine pairing.
They were keen to ascertain any allergies or special requirements and were happy to tailor the menu if required. This was not necessary for our group.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed every course ( some were quite spicy ) but none of us found them too much. Every course was very nicely presented and explained in detail upon serving. The wines were all excellent, described well and complimented each course perfectly ( a range of reds and whites ).
It is a fairly small, unassuming little restaurant that you could easily walk past without noticing. We were a group of 5 men and were sat on a table for 4 with a chair at the end. We were prepared for it being a little cramped, but we all found no issue with space. The interior decor is fairly plain and it seemed quite an unpretentious little restaurant. Music was not too loud and there were a mixture of couples and groups, some dressed very casually and some very well dressed. We were in fact 20 minutes late for our booking ( due to flight delays out of the UK on the Friday night we visited) but I called in advance and they were extremely polite and it was no problem.
I had initially tried to book via Trip Advisor but their booking system for the Blue Pepper refused to allow a booking for 5 people for some reason!
I was worried that it would be impossible to book for our group, so instead I went direct to their website and booked through their online form with no problems. Response was very swift via email and when I asked a couple of questions these were also responded to quickly. They did ask for a deposit of 125 Euros which seemed reasonable and this was paid via their online booking system using a credit card. When the bill was presented at the end of the meal, I did ask if the deposit was already taken off and they apologised as it was not, but very quickly sorted that with no fuss.
They also offer a Canal Dinner cruise which I would definitely try if travelling as a couple.
Very highly recommended.

Flying from England to Amsterdam for my birthday was the perfect opportunity to try it out! The restaurant is ran to perfection, with a lovely atmosphere from staff and customers. You are never without a glass of the indulgent wine, to compliment each course. Every glass was explained in depth the history of the wine, with a full description of the dish served alongside. Hans (sommelier) and Igor (chef) are combined geniuses. Hans has such passion when telling you about the wine and food that you are served. Each course was perfect, from portion to flavour. Thank you for an amazing experience! Hope to see you again in the not to distant future!

Vinkeles

Vinkeles is housed in an old bakery; which was set up in 1787 by the Regents of the Catholic Church, who at the time owned the building. The bakery flourished until 1811 and guests still can see the original ovens, which were discovered intact during restoration work.Echoing the décor of the hotel, Executive Chef Dennis Kuipers’ menu combines the traditional and the modern. The dishes served in Vinkeles show Kuipers’ love of the contemporary French cuisine. He combines the freshest ingredients to produce a menu that is delicious and unique to Vinkeles. I was recommended this place before coming to Amsterdam and how pleased I was to come here. Despite a small queue we were seated inside 10 minuets we had 4 items for €12, each was a delight from the pumpkin soup through the curry chicken quiche to the salmon roll and pulled chicken foccacia Sandwich all served in 'small' portions which are plenty big enough in fact 2 or 3 items would be ample. Will come here again when next inn Amsterdam.

I recommend it all but especially the cauliflower risotto ( which isn't a rice risotto ).

After Reading some reviews on TripAdvisor, my girlfriend and I decided to stop by. The hummus and the toppings were incredibly tasty and had amazing flavors. We opted to get one regular bowl and a small one with 3 pitas in total. The prices are really fair compared to the average restaurants’ prices, for fantastic food!
The people who work there were really lovely and helpful. We’ll be back for sure!
Thank you.
