Limpopo (UK: /lɪmˈpoʊpoʊ/) is the northernmost province of South Africa. It is named after the Limpopo River, which forms the province's western and northern borders. The name "Limpopo" has its etymological origin in the Northern Sotho language word diphororo tša meetse, meaning "strong gushing waterfalls". The capital is Polokwane (formerly Pietersburg).

Vervet Monkey Foundation

Spent 6 months at the Vervet Monkey Foundation in Limpopo as an intern and I can't wait to come back... ???????? I loved working with the monkeys. Especially their foster-mum program for orphaned babies and integration of ex-pet monkeys into established monkey troops is so rewarding. I loved how much I learned here on a daily basis! The work does get very stressful and hard at times, but it's all worth it when you see those cheeky little monkeys bouncing around. Apart from the work itself, I loved life in the bush. There's something beyond beautiful about the simplicity of living in a wooden cabin surrounded by nature and wildlife. Everything is centered around nature and sustainability - from their composting toilets (can't waste precious water by flushing!) to the amazing vegan food. The team is amazing and very dedicated to their work. I'm grateful to have made friends for life at this place. ❤️ Definitely recommend volunteering here - or at least to go on a very educational short tour. ????

We had a magical 4 nights stay at Vhembe Bush Lodge. We were woken up a few times during the first night from lions roaring close by and they came for a quick visit early the morning. We also saw leopard tracks next to the car the same morning. We also had a lovely time doing the 4x4 tracks, particularly after the rains with all the mud. We saw plenty elephant, with 3 bulls visiting us close to the camp every day.

Big Boabab

Reviewed By DamianSadie - Johannesburg, South Africa

Off the R71 just before Gravelotte is a good dirt road for approximately 4km to Leydsdorp. The beautiful Baobab is simply majestic. It is between 2,000 - 2,500 years old. Apparently grows 10mm per year. You can climb up the ladder to where the branches start as well as climb inside the trunk. It is well worth the R20 admission fee.

Did this just because. Turned out to be more. Walking between graves that are this old does something to a regular afternoon - it adds some perspective.
