Fabulous stay, Highly recommend!!!

Hotel Omodaka was fantastic! We've been up to Yamanouchi a few years ago and stayed at a much more expensive ryokan, but this trip we were trying to find something that was traditional but a bit more reasonable. I'm SO glad we ended up here! First, the owners were an adorable couple who were so friendly, helpful and accommodating. It was like staying with family. As per our booking, we called ahead the day before to confirm our reservation and book the free shuttle to the hotel from the station. We arrived a bit early at the station so the lady at the station called the hotel and they were there in minutes. What service! Our room was large, clean, and had the traditional futons and tea service set out when we arrived. We had the private bathroom in our room as well. We discussed what time would work for us for dinner. Note - for the full traditional Japanese experience, DEFINITELY book the dinner and breakfast with your room. It's so unique and high end, and they always use the freshest local ingredients. We donned our yukatas (casual kimono robes provided) and went to our private dinner just down the hall. Trust me, it's a very cool meal full of foods you're not used to eating, but there's so much variety and it's all so well prepared that you will not go hungry. (and please remember that it's rude not to eat your meal, so do your best to ingest as much as is polite). We then headed to the hot springs (men and women are separate). After you change out of your clothes and put them in the bins, the first room you enter is the bath, where you can either sit in the hot pool or use the shower heads around the room (shampoos, soaps and facial cleaners included). We found the pool way too hot, so we used some peel cream on our faces and just sat under the shower heads. Then we realized there were stairs outside that led to the outdoor hot tub! The temperature was much more tolerable out here because of the chilly air, and you get a great view of the town if you stand by the wall. Our room had its own heater and a window that opened and overlooked the river and town. We slept comfortably and soundly. We had arranged for our breakfast at 8am, and they called for us when it was time. We once again donned the yukatas and had breakfast on the main floor with other guests. The breakfast is very traditional Japanese, so if you're hoping for toast and eggs you will be disappointed. But it's all about the experience, and I loved to try what a fancy Japanese breakfast would be like! We then were given a ride in the shuttle to the snow monkey park and made arrangements for a pickup time as well, while they held our luggage at the front desk. After being picked up at the park, we drove back to the hotel, got the luggage and said our goodbyes and then we were taken to the train station. They make it all so easy for you, and their English was pretty good so communication wasn't really an issue (But I recommend Google Translate App for the trip either way). We were treated like royalty and had an amazing trip up to Yamanouchi thanks to the wonderful owners and staff here at Hotel Omodaka! Arigato gozaimasu!

Warm, welcoming ryokan

Well situated (for skiing) in Nozawaonsen, itself famous for its centuries old hot springs, this entirely wooden ryokan is simply marvelous in every respect. From the front desk welcome from Hiroyasu and Kanga to the gentle efficient service from meal servers, we loved every minute. Traditional breakfasts are varied and tasty; the half board option including a magnificent banquet dinner one nite is a must and of course the onsens are a wonderfully refreshing way to begin and end each day. Can’t recommend this hotel highly enough.

The hotel looks western (and its name is "hotel"), but it is actually a Japanese style "ryokan" inside. You can enjoy spacious tatami room with futon. Staff were very caring and polite. Facilities including guest rooms, dining rooms, ONSEN, lounge, and pool are meticulously cleaned. They offer Yukata (Japanese bathrobe twice in a day, one for evening and another for morning). Haunted feeling

All photos and advertisement from Agoda are FAKE- no where near the reality. Beware that Agoda tricked with the photos of outside appearance- adjacent building does not belong to this hotel- carefully look the short small old build- that is it. First stepped in- very old and stuffy smell with greeting from front desk staff who immediately asked for resort fees to be paid per person per night (in cash)- which we found that is not a resort at all- just the onsen to provide locals/neighbourhood without basic bathroom in their own houses- so they come here daily to use the onsen and tick names off the account ( to be settled with the hotel later/weekly/monthly). The tourists have to help to contribute this fee for the locals..???? Worse than that- AGODA did not mention that NO PRIVATE BATH ROOM/ NO SHOWER FACILITY in the room- AGODA deliberately hide this information so when found out - the teenage daughters refused to join the local women ( mainly lovely Japanese elderlies) for onsen bath. After long negotiation they ( concierge and the owner) then reluctantly switched us to another room with private bathroom. Beware to book with AGODA- lesson to learn for future booking- watch out this site. The only good thing is free ONE WAY shuttle to drop hotel guests off the entrance to the Snow Monkeys Park- but then a long way of 30-45 minutes to walk back. Breakfast is just suitable for older generation of Asian guests otherwise look somewhere else ( Lawson near station, 7 eleven- long walk)

Well located hotel with great facilities and friendly staff

The hotel is located just 2 min walk from Yudanaka station. It’s is really convenient for accessing the ski resort at Ryuoo (free shuttle bus) and for visiting the Snow Monkeys. We were really happy with our stay. Yudanaka is a relaxed and fun place with a selection of a few really nice places to eat and really easy to access from Nagano via the station. The accommodation is basic, but has everything you need and is very clean. The Onsen in the hotel is excellent, with indoor and outdoor options. The hotel bar and restaurant offer a great facility. My only complaint was that a western breakfast was only available for 2 of our 4 days, I love Japanese food but just not for breakfast ! There are good options in town though. The staff were really friendly and made us feel so at home. Definitely worth a stay for a relaxing visit.

Hotel Sunny Shiga is located in the heart of the central ski area. Absolutely excellent location. The bus stop is outside (ski shuttle and Nagano bus) and there are three ski lifts located less then 100 metres from the front door of the hotel! The staff are so friendly - all of them - from the front desk to the restaurant staff - so friendly and accommodating. The dinner service and food in the restaurant is terrific. If you don’t feel like eating in, it is a short 10 - 15 minute walk to Ichinose village (or jump on the ski shuttle bus) where there are other restaurant options. The onsen in the hotel each night was a wonderful way to help with the post-ski recovery. The hotel has a shop at the bottom that stocks some helpful essentials. Would book again and highly recommend!
