What an indulgence
Reviewed By SKW66We booked the Executive Japanese Western Style Suite which was located in the middle building out of the 3. There was a little tatami room where the staff kindly made the mattresses during dinner time where our 2 young kids could sleep. Then my husband and I occupied the remaining 2 double beds which was just A LOT of space! Dinner was served in one of the restaurants in the same building. Our family of 7 was glad that we got to occupy in a private dining room. Too bad the weather was cloudy that we couldn't see the sun rise at 7am. The suite had a big living room area with a balcony facing the horizon. The view in a cloudy day was already stunning. It's a pity we couldn't see it in the best weather. The breakfast buffet at the same building got so many food choices we didn't get to try everything we would like. This was also because the breakfast time ended at 9:30am... Unlike in other hotels where they would let the guests finish the remaining food even though breakfast time is over, here the food was already being removed at 9:30am.

Reviewed By travelbird188The hotel is situated at the hill with an amazing view of Beppu City and Beppu Bay. The onsen and the heated pool are great with great views. It is so nice seeing the sunrise while relaxing in the onsen. The food in the restaurant are great, especially the beef and goose liver. Overall speaking, it's a great experience.

Reviewed By VTSMRoom is above average size in Japan. Interior decoration a bit dated. Services are generally good. The hotspring pools are acceptable. That said, I didn't feel the hotspring water slippery onto my skin and no sulphur smelling. Wonder if the water is real hotspring. Asked their staff who confirmed yes. But this was not my prior experience in hotspring water. You could literally smell sulphur when you passed by some hotspring sites.

Reviewed By LichfieldBoyThis is a truly strange hotel located miles from anywhere although the countryside was nice (on the rare occasion is stopped raining). The hotel looks like something you might find in the Tyrol but a bit more rustic with an onsen. The rooms are located down covered pathways and are spread out across the resort. Inside our room was very basic and the walls were largely constructed of mismatched wood with little furniture (and what is there is very uncomfortable). It was a bit smelly and there were two unsavoury looking pull down beds which would have allowed 4 people to sleep there. The 'bathroom' was terrible and had an unpleasant sunken shower next to a larger sunken bath, the only way to have a shower was to hand hold the shower head. The decor was similar throughout the main part of the hotel - lots of wooden beams and walls but it did seem fairly cosy in the lounge and restaurant. In contrast the food in the restaurant was outstanding, by far the best we had in Japan. As we were part of a large group we had a set 4 course meal for dinner and each was both delicious and faultless. Drinks were expensive but this is the same at every Japanese hotel. The staff were lovely and made sure we were happy with everything. Strangely after a couple of days the hotel did grow on me and I started to understand why people would choose to stay but I'm afraid the bathroom was so bad I couldn't award more than 3 stars despite the quality of our meals.

Reviewed By EBM-IP<Excellent> Cuisine I think this is one of the best Japanese cuisine “ryokan (auberge)” in “Yufuin” town. During dinner in a private room, a handwritten "course menu" paper of staying date was placed on the table. A total of 11 course meals were offered in a reasonable time according to our speed of the meal. Each one was a delicate and wonderful dish. I think this cuisine deserves Michelin stars. <Good> Location Located near the center of Yufuin town, it is very convenient for sightseeing. You will arrive within a minute walk to the souvenir shopping street. <Passing> Cramped and cheap rooms The site area of the entire inn are not large because it is located in center of the town. Each room and open-air bath are somewhat small for the price. A famous designer in Japan is working on the guest room design and interior, but the used building materials are cheap, so I can't feel design goodness. <Failing> Cost effectiveness I stayed in most expensive special room and paid 1,000 USD with half board. But the narrowness and comfort of the rooms are not worth it. In my intuition, reasonable price is 700-800 USD for this room. The cost effectiveness is not good, but I might make a reservation again next year only to taste cuisine. というわけで、マイナス点もありますが、プラス面の方が遥かに凌駕している宿ではないかと感じられました。

Reviewed By RobinKClarkeThis was bolt hole no.1 on our Rugby World Cup weekend, it was a good choice! I had already booked a nights stay here on the Saturday of England's rugby QF v Australia. We hastily arranged a Friday stay when it became clear commuting from Fukuoka to Beppu was going to be a major issue on match say. Turned out a great plan! So 2 nights, we enjoyed the Spa which me and my wife made full use of. The outdoor baths range in temperatures and size. At the time we stayed there, it was the chosen bolt hole of many a rugby newspaper hack! There was Messrs S Jones and M Cleary of the broad sheets and M Samuels of the Mail, amongst others. We also had rugby correspondents from Sky Sports news. Funny choice since Oita is quite a commute from that hotel. Anyway, I digress. Hotel rooms are plain but comfortable plus large enough. Walk in showers and breakfast had a wide selection. Friendly staff but an odd gown and slippers rule (not strictly enforced, just as well as slippers were too small as were garments). For both nights, we enjoyed drinks in their basic lounge area. Beers were purchased from a vending machine. Usual fayre of Asahi type later, not great but ok. The place is up in the mountains about a 20 min bus ride from Beppu Station. We ate in the evening in Beppu, plenty of choices. All in all, a fun stay.

Reviewed By GoTrueアートがメインのような記事が多いですが、部屋も機能的。 なんと言っても食事が期待以上に美味しく、食事だけでも食べに行く価値あり。 大浴場がないのが個人的には残念でしたが、あればなお嬉しいが、他で立ち寄り湯をすれば済む事かな。 部屋の広さの割にTVがやや小さくて、部屋が広すぎるせいかもっと大きなTVでも良さそう。 トイレットペーパーが普通なのも個人的には残念。 でもとても良い宿でした。また再訪します。
