Excellent Hotspring Hotel! New Rooms and Great Food!

Reviewed By MCHOI_HK

This hotel is located at around 3 min of walk from the JR Bandai-Atami Station! The walk is a pleasant simple short walk with just one turn, so it was quite convenient for me with all our luggage. I had a Japanese/western Room, which is a room with traditional decoration and set up, while the beds are actual fixed beds instead of Futons that will be stowed away during the day time. A very clean and spacious Lavatory (*the showers are with the hot spring bath). Different room sections are separated by Shoji doors just like what a traditional Japanese style room would be. It is very comfortable and relaxing to just stay in the room for tea after a day of travelling! This location is reachable directly from your arrival into Narita Airport. The station is just 1 extra train trip from the JR Koriyama Shinkansen Super Express Station. However, even if you have an earlier arrival (12PM) to Narita, you might get to the hotspring at 6PM, which might be quite a hurry if you intend to enjoy the full set dinner at the hotel. I suggest you to take the Breakfast option only. There are restaurants around the hotel, Maruyoshi Udon is highly recommended, a cozy little shop run by a very nice owner, remember to try out the Local Sake (Rice Wine) too! The Cafe Bar at the Hotel offers simple dishes and Ramen from 8PM on wards. The Hot Spring is a 500 year old hot spring with a legend that cures the illness of a Princess back in history. The hotel also owns its own Spring, which is only available at this hotel. The hot spring pool is on the top floor of the hotel, with an indoor pool and a smaller outdoor pool with sauna, over looking the mountains and the hot spring town. Baths are gender segregated, and for your enjoyment of the both pools, the pools are closed at around 1930PM to switch sides and for cleaning. The Buffet style Breakfast is Japanese style also with some Western dishes, made with fresh local ingredients, served on the 2/F of the hotel. Bandai-Atami is a nice stop if you are intending to travel from Tokyo towards Aizu-Wakamatsu.

Money Stolen from The Room

Reviewed By elisesmu

Quite a lot of money stolen from the room and the hotel would not do anything about it without the police (which is understandable), but they only operate during the day (very much doubt that, it's Police after all), so on top of missing money I would have had to miss a full day of skiing. Some other people had some items taken from their rooms as well

雪見風呂

Reviewed By MarianJ007

Relaxing stay. Beautiful rooms and hotel.

The way up to Hotel Aalto is long and windy. With one final sharp turn, we finally arrived at the lobby. The hotel team immediately sprang into action and helped to unload the luggage. As our group was big, we practically booked up all the 13 rooms. We were all housed in the main house, although there is a large suite on property but away from the main house. The hotel lobby is invites you to kick back and take a break. It has low ambient light, smooth jazz playing from a stereophile’s dreams. All drinks are already part of your room charge. Choose anything from whiskeys, wine, sake or softer drinks like uemeshu. Easy chairs in a comfy seating area invite conversations. The hotel has two marshes on site. Swap your shoes for boots supplied and trudge your way along cobblestone squares. For the adventurous, there are seats in the middle of the clear water marsh. This is an easy 15min walk. The hotel is 3 stories with lifts and stair case for access. If you stand near your room door, you can hear human traffic in the cavernous hallway. Suggest asking for a room further from stairs and lift. Rooms on the third floor also have high ceilings, and this was well received by the other occupants. Rooms The hotel is modeled after a Swedish lodge. Expect lots of light brown wood flooring and paneling, clean white bedsheets and thick fluffy blankets. Rooms are modern with western beds, table and chairs. We had a huge wardrobe, which also housed a safe. Safe key is on your room key chain. There’s also a tatami area with a flat screen TV, plus a small kitchenette with coffee machine. A bar fridge sits under the table, with bottles of juices, beer and cold tea and water. The bath room is separated from the toilet. Toilet has the usual warm toilet seats and backside plus bidet washing functions. The bath room has one sink, with a large surface area to put your toiletries. A basket sits on one end with hair dryer and plenty of amenities (toothbrush, wash cloth, shaving kit, etc). The huge walk in shower area comes stocked with bathing materials. There’s a good quality shower with good shower flow. WiFi can be received in the room. Note that the room and lobby uses a different WiFi network. The hotel has a restaurant where we had breakfast and dinner on both days. Food quality is superb. Breakfast is Japanese style buffet with a plate of fusion breakfast goodies on our table already. Dinner was also fusion food. We enjoyed our meals at the hotel. As guests have been known to kick back after dinner with drinks, the hotel serves a late supper to your room. In the “post box” of your room, a small box of two freshly made onigiri rice balls can be found. There’s a small onsen in the hotel. An enjoyable and relaxing stay at the Hotelli Aalto. Rooms were clean and well designed. The staff were on top of their game. The hotels amenities were superb and we enjoyed a good Yamazake while we chilled in the lobby. Highly recommended!
