The 10 best hotels in Titikaveka, Cook Islands

September 8, 2022 Enedina Augsburger

Perhaps the most spectacular feature of the village of Tikikaveka is the Cook Islands Christian Church, built entirely from hand-cut coral bricks. Of course, the rest of the island comes pretty close. Titikaveka Lagoon is a bright spot for snorkeling, and Titikaveka Beach is famous as a gem of the South Pacific. Smooch under the shade of a gently swaying palm tree while you relax into the romantic natural embrace of this gorgeous island.

The thing that makes this place so special are the people. Greg and the staff really looked after us. Special mention has to go to Jiuta and Shania, who greeted us by name with big smiles every day. The resort was impeccable and the restaurant/bar area was always buzzing with activity. The food was so incredibly delicious that we ate there every night! There was plenty to choose from the menu and the cocktails were amazing! We loved waking up to the view from our beachfront bungalow and spending time on our deck. Perfect for ordering Room Service and chilling in privacy. The rooms were cleaned and tidied each day. We really didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back. :-)

Pure bliss and relaxation

We had the most amazing stay at Sea Change from the private transfer with bubbles to the first class service by Stephanie the manager who booked any place we wanted to go and was extremely accomodating our whole stay, to our own private pool which was bliss from sunrise to sunset! We were upgraded from the lagoon view to the beach front villa and the views were amazing! Rooms were tidy and clean and the breakfast package we got on arrival was a nice added touch. There is no restaurant/cafe on site or within walking distance so you do need to hire a car or scooter or get the bus. Stephanie organised us to get a car and it was perfect.

Wonderful Stay

We enjoyed our stay at the Makayla Palms. The location is great : beach access is so close and we were lucky to have the beach to ourselves. Good snorkelling in a safe spot. It was walking distance to Little Polynesian Resort and Charlies. We especially enjoyed our meals at the Little Polynesian. The bus stops right outside which was handy as we didn't have transport. We purchased a concession card from the driver (10 trips with each trip no matter the distance being $5). The villa was very well equiped. Would recommend having the AC as the fan was good but it was very hot! A very special mention to the wonderful Grace who knowing that we would be returning from Aitutaki on Good Friday very kindly picked us up from the airport as there were no buses running. We really appreciated this very thoughtful service. Would highly recommend staying at the Makayla Palms and wouldn't hesitate to stay there if were went to Rarotonga again.

Rarotonga Beach Bungalows

With just five (5) deluxe beach bungalows clustered in a native village atmosphere, these units all offer the laid back and unique feeling of visiting the South Seas of the 1940's. All units front on a wide, white sand beach where the tropical lagoon in front is a national maritime protected area -- and, thus, allows endless snorkeling adventures. All bungalows are separate, free standing, Polynesian designed units. All have coconut thatch roofs, bamboo interior walls, colorful cloth on the ceiling and white sand at each bungalow entry. All are furnished with modern amenities. The property strives to offer the maximum BEACH fun with a 'spirit of the islands'. Nothing here is stuffy, snobby, stainless steel -- just a great secluded location for couples to enjoy the BEACH.

Hidden Gem

Can’t say enough good things about this place. The owners were lovely and super helpful, the bungalows were clean, gorgeous and full of character. We were very surprised that they weren’t all full during our stay as I believe they are very reasonable for the price, so I’m mainly writing this review in the hopes that more people stay here! A tip - we stayed in a ‘non-beachfront’ bungalow, but you still get a great beach view as they are all staggered, so I don’t think it would be massively worth it to upgrade! About the place - it’s about a 30sec walk to a beautiful beach which is more or less private. The beach is perfect for snorkelling and kayaking (which are provided for free). The bungalow is spacious with a really nice vibe and the outdoor shower is probably one of the greatest showers I’ve ever used! Our flight wasn’t until 8pm, but the hosts very generously said we could stay as long as we wanted past checkout as there wasn’t another booking that day. Just another reason why we rate this place and these guys so highly. 10/10!

A group of 8 of us booked both the Coral and Hibiscus Villas for a combined 240th birthday celebration. 6 Milestone birthdays which were foiled by lockdown last year. We were all absolutely so happy with the Villas. Very spacious, clean and homely. Each bedroom had both ceiling fan and air conditioning unit which was fabulous. The beach on the doorstep of these Villas was dreamy. Clear blue water, golden sand and also great snorkeling. We barely saw anyone else on yhe Beach so felt like we had it to ourselves. We would all go back there in a heart beat. Thanks for making our special holiday magnificent Sands Villas!

We called ahead (have learnt that this is a good idea if you have to feed kids earlyish). There's a cafe style area next to the road but also a lovely beach front, small restaurant out the front so ask & try your luck (I'm sure in-house guests will get priority but we struck it lucky). Lovely food & cocktails & a lovely waitress. These places are very easy to drive past but are actually little gems. Don't ignore them...

It takes time to get here but once you arrive time stands still. Your own private hideaway wraps its beautifully planted arms around you and you never want to leave. Hinano, the delightful owner, goes that extra mile to ensure that you have everything you need to make your stay perfect. The villa has everything you need, and if you don't want to cook you have the Little Polynesia restaurant a few paces to the left and Charlies bar and cafe a few more steps along the beach in the other direction. Take the bus in either direction around the island, shop at CITC or Wigmores, take a safari up the mountains or, as we did, just hit the loungers with books and occasionally take a swim in the beautiful lagoon where you may be lucky to see turtles and rays. Yes it takes time but it is oh so worth it.
