Perfect service, cozy family feel
Reviewed By he4mei2We stayed at Gorokaju for 2 nights on our honeymoon. While it's a little tough to get to this Ryokan, it's worth it for the cozy family feel of the place. The staff are all perfectly lovely and kind. They made and extra effort to help us catch an earlier train than we originally planned. The rooms are comfortable, the outdoor baths were relaxing, and the breakfast and dinner service was a fun experience! I can't say enough how truly wonderful the staff were.

Stop-over on Japan Romantic Road
Reviewed By Joseph86Following on from our stay in Hotel Wellies in Karuizawa, following the Japan Romantic Road (Google "Japan Romatic Road"). Our next stop was the old Onsen (hot spring) town of Oigami (伍楼閣) where we decided to stay at Hotel Shisuitei. The town itself is a sleepy backwater, with several buildings starting to collapse into the river valley due to erosion (can be seen from the suspension bridge crossing the gorge). They have a Guinness World Record for the world's longest plastic snake (on display for tourists). We could not find any restaurants. Seems everyone eats in their own hotel. The hotel has a free carpark. At check-in the only languages were Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. Our room was traditional Japanese style sleeping on the floor (western style beds are available in other rooms). The hotel man made waterfall was outside our window, so we had a continuous noise of crashing water. Two dinner options were offered: one price set meal (in the breakfast hall) and a la carte in a restaurant. We chose the set meal. Big mistake. Felt like dining in a school hall. And food quality was not high. Recommend to order a la carte in the restaurant. The actual onsen (hot bath) was pretty much industry standard - nothing special. Breakfast was again in the "school hall". Again not impressive. Now I understand why this Onsen town seems to be falling by the wayside. After check-out we continued our romantic road trip. First stop at impressive Fukiware waterfalls (吹割の滝) then on to Lake Chuzenji (中禅寺湖), then onwards to Narita airport, but due to bad weather our flight was delayed one day, so we stayed in Route Inn Kashima (ホテルルートイン鹿嶋).

Excellent service, and close to the waterfalls
Reviewed By Bixier GLocated very close to the waterfalls we decided to come here because of Internet ratings. Overall the staff is very kind and polite. The dinner is very good different then the western breakfast. He did hotel is not to be blamed for. When in Rome do as the Romans do. So don’t eat western breakfast. The room itself is not big, considering the price of nearly 700 US we had to pay for the room with double occupancy. However we had a very nice private bath. I would certainly recommend this place but this not champions league in Japanese Inn’s.

Reviewed By kenzizi素泊まりの利用でしたが温泉とりわけ露天風呂がよく、山行の疲れを癒すことができました。タイトル記載のとおりスタッフの方がいろいろ気を遣ってくださいましたのでとても良い温泉宿ライフを過ごせました。派手さがなく、落ち着いた温泉街ですのて大人の隠れ家として週末利用をお勧め致します。

Room's heating though switched off, kept humming at a clearly audible level, impssoble to sleep unless your are deaf, plus made air extremely dry.Clerk offered another room on fifth floor, same thing. Room on 2nd floor offered, was very cold and smelled like cold smoke.Tried out that room, impossible to sleep as utterly cold PLUS loud, drunken Chinese parading up and down the aisle in front of the room. Hotel staff did NOTHING - typical Japanese, three monkeys - don't hear, see, speak. Quality of food was ok, but service waslow level, like rushed through, for dinner ordered two more beers, waiter brought empty glasses...... no water offered,only upon request, everyone very hectic. For breakfast shabushabu was served, not really a Japanese breakfast dish.Wifi in room did not work. Overall impression: not to be recommended.

Reviewed By pentablues施設正面から見て右が食堂、左が宿泊施設。 入口は宿泊側と食堂と二つあります。尚、受付は食堂でします。 外装と施設内は良い意味でギャップがあるかな。 施設内は随所に女性ならではのおもてなしを感じます。 施設内は全体的にウッディーな感じ、またアーティスト系な装飾を感じました。 随所に飾ってある絵もしかり、食堂にはグランドピアノ、アップライト２台のピアノが置かれていてミニライブもできそうな雰囲気。 小さいお子さんも多く宿泊されるのだろうなと、キッズルームもありますよ。 タブレットでネットもOKでした。 食事は山の幸をメインにしたもの。 コスパを考えれば十分満足。 また、地元の酒蔵の冷酒「水芭蕉」は美味しかったですね♪ お風呂は広くゆったりできて満足ですが、残念ながら温泉ではないようです。 尚、入口に札をかければ貸し切りもOKです。 宿泊時は静かでのんびり過ごせました。いろいろ有難うございました。 チェックアウトでは女将さん自家製の「きゃらぶき」を頂き恐縮です。 自宅に帰って晩酌のおつまみにさせて頂きました。 総合評価は丸三つですが、全体的に好印象です。

Reviewed By やすし わ大きな岩で囲まれた湯槽。ほのかな硫黄臭。「温泉に来たなあ。」と疲れた身体が癒やされました。 建物は全般にリノベーションされた感じでした。 食事は個室。このご時世、嬉しかったです。 また、スキー帰りに寄りたいと思います。

Very decent for the price
Reviewed By platinuuumWe spent 1 night after a day snowboarding in Kawaba. The facility is obviously old, but people here are charming. The food and onsen are all very decent for the price we paid. If you are on a budget, this is the place to go.
