wonderful service

Reviewed By fphew

Hotel is just 5mins drive from Oboke station, we requested for shuttle pick up from the hotel prior to our arrival. Very large spread for the breakfast, they even provide english description and explanation of what every dish is, very meticulous. Hotel is just opposite the pleasure boat cruise and they offered a discount coupon to us when we checked in. This area is generally very quiet with not much touristy stuff around, on our first night we had to walk 30 mins to get to a local supermarket to get some food because we did not reserve the hotel's dinner. On our second night, we asked the counter if there was any convenience store nearby like 7-11 or lawsons to get our dinner, and they immediately arranged for their shuttle van to send us there and back. Very good service. So if you are planning to stay here for many nights, either you book the hotel's dinner in advance or pack your own cup noodles from other cities. The restaurant opposite the hotel closes early at 5pm. After 5pm ,the streets are pretty much empty and dark. Note that there is a onsen charge of 150 yen per person per night. We weren't aware of this when we booked the hotel through 2nd party sites and wasn't told by the staff when we checked in either. Even if you do not use the onsen, you still have to pay for the 150 yen. Thankfully it is not a big amount but I just wished the staff told us on the day we checked in so that we could have make full use of the onsen..

Nice Onsen Hotel

Reviewed By ivanlieckens

This was our second hotel in Japan and the first Ryokan type with Japanese style rooms, futons to sleep on and Yukata to wear around. Our room was very spatious and had a washing table and private toilet. This was out of our stay the largest room we’d had the pleasure of occupying for 2 nights. The hotel has a shuttle service to pick you up from the nearby trainstation but be prepared to ask in Japanese. Transfer takes about 15mins by car or you could walk 1,5h. This area is bus or car and when using the bus be very careful as there are only about 6-8 busses a day depending on where you’re going. We had to fall back to using a taxi because of missing the bus once. Make sure to enjoy the hotel’s onsen with a magnificent view and “outdoor” bathing! The breakfast buffet is Japanese and extensive. Dinner is also available which we enjoyed twice as there is nothing else really in the area but don’t worry the hotel restaurant has excellent and very affordable dinner options.

Hotel Kazurabashi

Beautiful onsen

Reviewed By BelindaL_17

We chose this hotel for our visit to Oboke because of the outdoor onsen, and it did not disappoint! You can take a bus from the Oboke station, however the frequency is not high, hence we took a taxi which cost slightly less than 3000 yen. You can walk to the Kazurabashi bridge from the hotel (approximately 15mins), but there wasn't a proper walkway for pedestrian. However there wasn't much traffic so it didn't feel dangerous walking along the main road. The hotel provides a night tour (8pm every night) to the bridge and the Biwa falls, and the friendly driver helped to take pics, and stopped at a spot for star gazing! Dinner and breakfast were included in the stay. During dinner, the Okami sang us a beautiful traditional song, and chat with us to ensure we enjoy ourselves. The food was well prepared and was made from regional produce. The onsen was the highlight. You can a take a cable car up to the outdoor onsen (there's stairs if you want to), which has the most beautiful mountain view. There's a lodge for hot tea after the bath, and a footbath where you can sit and enjoy the view. If you are visiting during winter like we did, I would suggest washing yourself in the indoor bath, have a quick soak to warm yourself up, throw on your yukata, then head up quickly to the outdoor onsen. On our first soak, we made the mistake of showering outdoor and it was freezing, although we did warmed up in no time after going into the onsen. There's only 2 showers in the outdoor onsen, so if you might have to wait for your turn if there's a crowd. We enjoyed the stay and the onsen, and would highly recommend this hotel if you're looking for a great onsen experience.

Very Pleasant Stay

Reviewed By William S

The Hikyo-no-yu is a very pleasant and very Japanese hotel and Olsen. The hotel is spacious and has a wonderful view onto the mountains. It is a bit awkward moving from building to building as it is built on a mountainside but this is not a real inconvenience. The staff is large and well-trained and there is enough English to provide assistance. The meals are well-organized and you can make requests (with sufficient notice before the meal) if you need accommodation regarding food allergies. We were in the western annex but with futons and it was quite comfortable. The wireless doesn’t make its way to the annex, by the way. The rooms are large with great views. If you just accept that you are in Japan and not in Europe you will be happy - the staff here are very welcoming and accommodating.

Nice Place

I stayed in the dorm here for three nights. The location in the middle of the Iya Valley is peaceful. It is a great chance to escape. However there are no lockers in the dorm room. The common area is also small so it can get noisy early in the morning and late at night. The house is Japanese style so it is quaint but if you are over 170 cm expect to hit your head daily.

Yoki Guest House

Simple, comfortable, great value

Reviewed By belinda-ann

It was a lovely spacious and clean Japanese-style room with nice mountain views. The location in the village of Nishi-iya is convenient if you are travelling without a car, right by the bus stop. The cafe is not operating, but there is coffee for breakfast and a home-cooked dinner can be ordered in advance, otherwise self-catering. There are few budget options in the area, so we thought that Yoki was good value. Not the guesthouse as much as the general Iya Valley location - as buses are infrequent it's not easy to get around, but taxi services are available.

Wonderful stay in a traditional Japanese style room

Reviewed By Lunasolhk

We stayed one night and have the stay package that included both dinner and breakfast. The hotel is quite well located and can easily access boh both Iya East and West also close to Kazurabashi Bridge. Free parking is available onsite. We reserved the room that have a special Ceramic Tub for the onsen. The room is quite big, in traditional Japanese style and it's in clean. The private onsen is located on the balcony, so as the shower. It was a bit cold when we took the shower but the view of the onsen, overseeing the Iya Vally is totally worth it. The meals are very delicious and also showcase the valley's local produce and culinary tradition. Staff are friendly and also speak okay English.

Fabulous Ryokan!

Reviewed By Joyce W

We stayed at the Kazuraya inn and had a fabulous experience! The food was excellent and unique. And even though we aren't real onsen people, we loved the onsen there. The family that runs Kazuraya is really kind and we look forward to our next visit!
