Reviewed By gabizaba96I felt very safe staying in hotel San Jose, they are taking very seriously the COVID protocol. The place is very clean and neat. The staff was very friendly and willing to help. Also, the location is perfect to walk around and have access to the city center. It was my first time staying in Matagalpa and the experience was awesome. Highly recommend.

The hostel is in a good location in town and the owners have helpful guides on what to do in the area. If you pay for your stay with a card then there is a 6% fee which isn’t listed anywhere online.

Reviewed By Fearless68249888169This hostel is centrally located in busy Matagalpa. The hostess was very efficient and business-like, and responded to our requests immediately. However, some of these requests seem like they should not have needed to be made including - turning the water on so the toilet could be flushed, and adjusting the water heater so we could have a hot shower. A request not made but would have added to our comfort would have been a blanket in the room. It was the middle of the night before we realized this was needed. Even in July, the weight of a blanket rather than just a sheet would have been appreciated.

Reviewed By leslie1666Fuimos en semana santa. Al principio no nos abrieron para realizar el check in, luego entendimos que era porque solo una muchacha estaba trabajando en todas las áreas. Fue bastante amable y se esforzaba mucho, pero no fue adecuado dejarla sola. Por lo tanto, todo fue bastante tardado. La comida estaba rica pero se tardo mucho, el cuarto estaba bastante bien y cómodo, al igual que el baño.

Excellent option in Matagalpa

Although the booking site indicated I could not change my reservation, the owner had no problem allowing me to change it. Very beautiful hotel just a couple minutes walk to city center. Surrounded on all sides by walls, and behind a big gate that was manned 24 hours, so very secure. Very beautiful garden, and the rooms were a very unique style. All of the necessities, including wifi, television, and safe in the room. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. I believe the coffee is made from beans grown on the premise.

A gem in Matagalpa
Reviewed By Bobby II cannot praise this hotel enough. Aldo and his mother Myraiam are the perfect hosts that go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The rooms are spacious and the bed is large and the bathroom is big with a walk in hot/cold shower. TV and air conditioning in the room and good wifi all over the hotel. There is a covered lounge/breakfast area and a little swimming pool too. They can arrange pick up or drop off to the airport in Managua and also arrange any sight seeing tours you may want to do. When I told Aldo I had to go to Managua one day to get a PCR COVID test to return to the US he found a way to get me an antigen test done at the hotel. He saved me a long day in Managua and the $150 test fee. I was able to then enjoy one more day in Matagalpa. I stayed a total of 13 days and loved every minute of it. The breakfast is delicious and more than enough. The coffee and juice perfect.

Good, friendly, convenient location for bus station
Reviewed By merijnheijnenThe Hostel is quite a new hostel in Matagalpa, with a few rooms, some dorm some private. We had the private room with private bathroom which was a nice spacious room. The Hostel is located close to the main bus station for an easy arrival (but check for yourself because there are two bus stations). It's also conveniently close to he city center so you can easily walk to restaurants (check El Taquero, just one block from The Hostel, great asados, tacos and burritos). The staff is friendly, although not all the most experienced, but willing and trying. There is free coffee, you better just ask for it if you want some. The older señor makes great coffee and did our laundry on request for a decent price. At the back is a nice patio with seating, some plants and hammocks, a great place to relax. Good value!
