Over great!

It was more than I expected in terms of the facility, the breakfast, the interior and others. The only area that I felt needs to be improved was the service by the staff because most of the staffs seemed junior from my perspective. However, among them, Rob Hutchinson at the door desk and Lashan Perera at the lounge bar were especially great and I really appreciate their meticulous care for us. You may remember their name and ask their support if you need any tips during your travel!

Great hotel with a great ocean and lake view

Reviewed By UserN0323

Despite that the hotel closed the spa and pool due to the pandemic, the hot spring bath was nice and relaxing. Our room wasn't ready when we went to check in and we were told that take a some time. My friend wasn't very impressed with the staff at the front desk. While sipping on a cup of complimenary coffee, we decided to go down to the town for a bite to eat. We were rather mobile since we rented a car. The considerable delay in being shown to our rooms would've been unacceptable had we been stuck at the hotel with no means to get around. The bed was comfortable, bathroom roomy, and the breakfast was excellent. That breakfast made up for any mishaps during checking in. It was a pity that the ocean started to cloud over just as the sun was setting. There were some clouds on the lake side during sunrise, but still, the view was amazing. Renting a car is recommended, since the hotel is pretty far from the airport and sits at the top of a mountain. There's nothing else within the immediate vicinity.

Traditional hotel with awesome scenery.

Reviewed By Rawsilver

Checked in for a one night stay. Tatami room was not very spacious for the 4 of us. The bathroom was small and compact. The onsen was very basic with 2 or 3 pools. No temperature indicator at the onsen. However, the scenery from our room was excellent. We could see the whole lake and even the Lake Toya 'Mount Fuji'. Breakfast items are adequate and quite delicious. Overall, it was a comfortable stay.

Fantastic view, average hotel

Was in Niseko for the first time for a ski trip and decided to stay at Kanro due to decent reviews on Agoda. However we were not impressed by the service as none of the hotel staff could speak fluent English. Only a couple of them could manage simple English while the rest didn’t understand at all. They do have a few staff from China so good thing we spoke Chinese. Hotel guests are mainly Chinese tourists and local Japanese people, which explains why none of the staff spoke good English. Breakfast buffet was good but dinner buffet was quite a disappointment with very few choices and mostly cold dishes. It is located 10mins drive away from Annapuri ski resort and 30mins drive away from Hirafu welcome centre. There is free shuttle bus service. We didn’t mind the distance since the hotel is very close to Moiwa ski resort (3mins by driving) where we spent most of our time at. Ski rental at hotel is cheap but equipment is dated. I even found a used plaster in a pair of gloves I rented. Do not recommend renting your equipment from the hotel at all. And although there is a ski centre at the hotel next to the rental shop, none of the staff could speak English so we had to book our ski lesson through the Chinese staff at front desk. Rooms are spacious and clean however not so sound proof. During our stay we could hear our next door neighbors talking and their baby crying. Did not use the hotel onsen but I heard it is good and famous for making your skin beautiful. Lastly we really enjoyed the view at the hotel restaurant. Amazing winter view of the woods and hill which made our stay worthwhile.

Chalet Ivy Hirafu

Centrally located in Hirafu’s Upper Village, luxury boutique hotel Chalet Ivy accommodates travelers of the world with fine hospitality and a hearty home away from home experience. Whether you are touring the bounty of natural beauty that is summertime in Hokkaido or heading out for a long day on the world-famous Niseko powder snow, Chalet Ivy is here to welcome you home afterwards! Comfortable rooms with mountain views, delicately prepared Japanese cuisine with wine and Japanese sake, natural onsen hot springs, gym, and spa, and activity concierges are here to make your stay in Niseko truly luxurious.

Are there more than Five Stars available? Chalet Ivy deserves them! Staying here in Hirofu was a great choice!

I cannot say enough great things about the hotel and staff at Chalet Ivy. From the moment we walked in the door, they made us feel welcome and did everything they could during our stay to help out and make our experiences great. The hotel was clean and modern, and very centrally located. Since there are fewer restaurants open due to Covid, the staff was incredibly helpful in finding us wonderful places to eat (from fun local Japanese cuisine to an Italian restaurant) and in arranging for the hotel shuttle to get us there. They even helped us get in touch with a local artist whose gallery was located across the street, but wasn’t keeping regular hours due to the pandemic. Sho at the front desk spoke with the artist and arranged a convenient time where we could meet him and buy one of his beautiful rice paper lamps. The shuttle was always available to take us to the slopes and while we could easily have called for them to take us back, we found that by ending our skiing day at the Welcome Center, we could quickly and easily walk 250 meters downhill back to the hotel. The great onsen was a wonderful way to relax after a day on the slopes and the breakfast was incredible (plus by day 2, the waitress knew I wanted milk with my coffee and brought it for me). I would recommend Hirafu as the best of the four towns in the Grand Niseko ski area. Hirafu has, by far, the largest town/village area with a variety of restaurants and shops, plus we found it to be English-speaking friendly.
