The 10 best Hostels hotel in Quito, Ecuador

May 5, 2023 Carley Gatson

With a rich pre-Colombian history, Ecuador's capital was founded on the ruins of an Incan city but offers everything a modern traveler might need. It remains the least-altered historic center in Latin America and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Quito’s important sites include baroque gems like San Francisco and Santo Domingo monasteries, as well as La Compañía church and college. This huge city sprawls across a breathtaking Andean valley surrounded by volcanic peaks.

Everything I look for in a hostel, almost.

I stayed a week in the 9 person dorm, and it was a pleasure. The restaurant serves delicious food. The front desk staff were always friendly and helpful. The location is just a few minutes from Plaza Grande. For the budget traveler, it doesn't get much better than this. But there is no place for conveniently washing and drying clothes.

The Secret Garden Quito

The Secret Garden Quito is a friendly Australian/Ecuadorian/French family run hostel conveniently located in a quiet, authentic cobble-stone street in central Quito. Our 'barrio', or neighbourhood, is one of the few remaining Colonial districts and even our building is protected by a United Nations World Heritage listing. With a big improvement in security in the Old Town in recent years, plus 24 hour police patrols, our neighbourhood now enjoys a level of safety and security equal to (or often better than!!) most international capital cities. But there's more!!Our beautifully restored colonial building features a rooftop terrace/restaurant/bar with breathtaking views of the historical Old Town. Feel free to browse our hostal book exchange, chat with our friendly Ecuadorian and foreign staff, check your email (free use of computer and free Wifi), or just relax listening to any of our wide selection of music.

Great atmosphere, staff and organization

We stayed for a week in total at the secret garden. Dorms are basic but clean and beds are very comfortable with a privacy curtain. The roof top has a great vibe and beautiful views and food was good and affordable. Because of the bar it's loud, but what I appreciated tremendously was that it closes at 11 with plenty of opportunities to go elsewhere after. Even arranged by the hostel. That meant the rest of us who needed to sleep could actually do so! Don't forget to visit the Cotopaxi hostel, it's a must!

I was staying at another hostel which was ok and more expensive, when I found the blue house nearby I moved ASAP. It has a great atmosphere, very safe, cheap, and has everything you could ask for from a hostel. The dueños are very easy going and friendly too.

Travellers Inn

This is an antique Mansion, part of the city's heritage. It used to be owned by the Quitea aristocracy of the first years in the 20th Century. Run by owners you will always have a smiling face trying to suit your needs. Anyway, there is always someone around who speaks English. We have first quality bedrooms, with private/shared bathrooms and 24 hours hot water, TV, phone, wireless Internet, security boxes, wake up call and daily room service.

Nice and relaxing

The family that runs this hostel are all really friendly and welcoming. I had booked a specific room but being a slower time in the season, they gave me the choice to go into a larger room for no extra cost! The room was really comfortable and well maintained, and the included breakfast in the morning was nice and filling. Being unfamiliar with the area, everyone was helpful at telling me where to go and nice spots to learn the neighborhood. When it was time to leave, they helped arrange me a taxi to a new hostel in another neighborhood of Quito. Oh and also worth mentioning! Everytime I came back to my room they had cleaned and made my bed which was really nice. Over all, my stay was all I could hope for. Thanks everyone!

Amazing Experience!

In three months of travelling thru South America this was the most unique, amazing, and possibly best hostel I stayed at. It has all the amenities one could want. Great location, rooftop bar, and travel help. But far and away what makes this place amazing are the people working there. Marco, the owner, is so amazingly accommodating and everyone else is like an immediate friend. I also have to mention the group breakfasts and dinners. I can be a bit of an introvert but everyone is so friendly and the food is so amazing that you wont want to miss out on a single meal. They also have great activities every night. Don't skip out on this place. It made my trip in Iquito.

I stayed at this inn for 3 months during my study abroad program and the owners and staff were so friendly and kind to us! They made us feel like we had a new family there and I would definitely go back. The hostel staff also always cleaned our rooms very thouroughly. The hostel is so cute, with a sunny yellow and white theme, lots of garden spaces and flowers, a pool, and a waterslide. It also has an open grassy back lawn, where they are able to host large events, and always decorate the hostel beautifully! As it is outside of Quito, the air is fresh and clean and there aren't city noises so it is very tranquil, so we almost always got a good nights sleep. There is also a beautiful view of Pichincha and Quito from the upstairs balcony from which you can watch the sunset over the city in the distance.

In a quiet and safe area at the outer edge of the historical centre and with some very nice restaurants and laundries within a couple of blocks.
