The 10 Best Conference & Convention Centers in Georgia, Georgia

June 10, 2021 Janean Rudisill

While Atlanta is the anchor and capital of Georgia, you can aim in any direction to find distinctly different regions – from the tail of the Appalachians in the North to the rolling Piedmont hills and on down to the seaside marshes in the East. Atlanta lays claim to the state’s number one attraction – Stone Mountain State Park. They say it best - “Serious fun. Endless adventure.” Just 15 minutes from downtown, the world’s largest exposed granite dome is surrounded by 3,200 acres of natural beauty and stimulating activities for every member of the family – sky rides and hiking paths, laser shows and pedal boats along Stone Mountain Lake. Golfers tee it up, while red foxes dash across the fairways in a state where the Masters Golf Tournament creates revered green-jacket memories every year. It’s a long downhill ride down to historic Savannah, a ‘stone’s throw’ from the Atlantic and a virtual step back in time to Southern architecture and stately squares. St. Simon’s and Jekyll Islands offer barrier island beauty and a wonderful combination of outdoor activities, historic sites and artistic culture. Originally the private winter playground of wealthy northeasterners, Jekyll Island stretches along 10 miles of coastal beaches and inland marshes. Cycling and walking paths wind under moss-laden oaks, and a tour of Millionaire Village takes you back to those Cornelius Vanderbilt and J.P. Morgan days. The kid-friendly Summer Waves Water Park adds man-made fun to natural water sport activities. Coastal golf courses and sophisticated St. Simon’s Island appeal to moms, dads and vacationing couples.

Sapelo Hammock Golf Club

Sapelo Hammock Golf Club features five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. The 18-hole, 6,887-yard, par 72 course is the main attraction, boasting Champion Bermuda greens, 4 - 19 Bermuda fairways and roughs, and coastal Georgia marsh grass hazards. The thought-provoking layout will test the veteran players while the picturesque scenery will help newer golfers relax as they enjoy learning the classic game. With over two miles of marsh front play, the views are spectacular. The clubhouse is also available for receptions, business functions, and the marsh view side is a great spot for location wedding. Our Eagles Nest apartment above the clubhouse is a two bedroom, two bath rental with full kitchen, den and deck overlooking the beautiful coastal marsh. We offer stay and play packages and have this apartment and three other condos available for stays of 16-20 guests.

Sapelo Hammock is a hidden gem of a golf course. It is beautifully situated on the Coastal Marsh. The course has several tee boxes and can accommodate all caliber of golfers. It is a beast from the back tees, hard from the blue tees and has the most challenging par 3s. The vistas are beautiful. The course was in good shape for January, greens putted true and were fairly fast but held high irons. Staff is friendly and cost is very reasonable. If you are close or even thinking of going near there, you must play golf here. I promise you will thank me for it.

We have been to this place twice - both the times to attend the circus event and we are hugely impressed by the building and facilities at Dalton Convention center. It has ample parking and considering the Dalton city size, I must say that it's very impressive.

Gwinnett Center

We (my wife and I) have been here many times. This concert was the best. I purchased two VIP tickets. Dinner and parking was included. The dinner was selected personally by the artist. It included salad, the main course, dessert and wine. The wine was a red sangiovese and a white Pinot Grigio from the Bocelli Vineyard. The winery is run by the artist and his brother and has been in his family for over 150 years. The main course was Veal Oscar and it was delicious. I was very pleasantly surprised. Dessert was a parfait and it was decadent. There were Belgian chocolates at each place setting to take with you when you left to go to your seats. The concert itself was fabulous with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and a University of Georgia Chorus backing up the Artist. The sound system for this event was notably improved. The clarity of the sound on the floor level was outstanding.

Jekyll Island Convention Center

I attended the Georgia Tourism Conference at the Jekyll Island Conference Center and was so impressed. What an open, inviting facility that draws on the beauty of the island through the architecture, decor and artwork displayed throughout. The food was wonderful (I want the recipe for the loaded baked potato salad!), classrooms comfortable, Wifi fully functional, and restrooms plentiful and clean. The proximity of the convention center to the nearby town center with shops and restaurants was nice, as was the temptation of the palm trees, beach and ocean just outside. Beautiful facility!

Was there for Dreamhack very nice large venue. Three buildings make up the center. Recommend you prepay parking at one of their lots as there are 2 other concert venues (staples and Mercedes) nearby and parking can fill up quickly.
