like a dream, time traveling

immaculately clean, simple room, lovely old-fashioned charm with all the amenities: heat, hot water, fresh sheets and comfortable bed. View from our room was like Switzerland, snow-covered peaks. Even the bathroom was sunlit. And a comfortable bathtub to boot. The hosts--and they were hosts, were charming. One of the best experiences of Lebanon, and i've had many. And at a time when least expected, the country in its worst crises.

Beit Douma

Ahla w sahla bi Beit Douma! This is your home away from home, a Beit to share with your family and friends. Douma is one of the last Lebanese preserved villages...A postcard photo in the heart of the Batroun Mountains. Beit Douma is an old, traditional Lebanese house that has been restored in a simple and subtle way. The oldest part of the ground floor dates back to the 18th century, and some of the original Summaqi stone floor remains in the library. The original Hharounn has also been preserved - a hole in the floor that when filled with hot coals heats the room. The library is filled with cook books and plenty of DVDs to choose from, which you are invited to project for a movie's night! The kitchen is an open and light-filled space where breakfast is served, and where home guests are invited to give a hand to prepare lunch or dinner. Guests are also welcome to help themselves from the tea and coffee counter, which always has one or two desserts at hand. Only one room is available on the garden floor with windows surrounded by jasmine and laurel. The first floor is centered around the Dar, which looks out towards an endless view of Tripoli and the sea through typical Lebanese triple arches. Five rooms are available on the first floor, each with its private bathroom. Beit Douma is surrounded by large terraces, gardens, and orchards. A Tabouneh (traditional mud-brick oven), hand-built by our bread queen Em Ali, is built on the kitchen terrace to make fresh Manakeesh. Yalla, we are waiting for you bi Beit Douma!

Delightful Stay

Reviewed By Mediterranean_May

Beit Douma is one of the loveliest experiences you can have in Lebanon. The house is so carefully decorated and the garden so beautifully kept they give you a type of zen you would have thought extinct. The staff is so friendly and welcoming they literally make you feel at home, and the chef makes some of the finest food I’ve had in Lebanon (my mum’s included). Will definitely be returning as often as I visit Lebanon.

Interesting location but average breakfast

Reviewed By SurreyGirl27

Hotel Chbat is a ski hotel in Qadisha valley and is well set up for large groups and multi occupancy rooms. We stayed here as a last minute change of accommodation on a tour and were. I experienced a power cut while in the shower which was awkward as the shower is over a half bath with a steep step so I didn’t dare move, thankfully it was only a couple of minutes. The wifi was free and worked very well on the huge terrace and dining room but not so well in the bedroom. It looks a little shabby but as they were probably closed until the ski season they did their best to accommodate our group and the evening meal was delicious. Sadly breakfast was not good, very very limited in choice, no breads or pastries, no fruit (yet we had 4 different types of fruit at dinner the previous evening), no juice or yoghurt. Jams served with only pitta bread which was not very appetising. Lots of steps down an unmarked staircase to the street and then straight onto the main road which was not ideal

The owner Mr Elie is so nice and makes you feel at home and he offered to upgrade our room free of charge so it was wonderful. The authentic Lebanese dinner and breakfast are delicious. The hotel is very close to the cedars forest and the ski slopes.Everything about the area is lovely. The walk in the morning after a snowy night was superb. We will visit again for sure.
