Reviewed By Marintraveler076It may have been because we were almost alone there, but we had a delightful and luxurious stay at Ishidaya. The staff is reasonably genial but happily not cloying, like they can so often be at inns and hotels in Japan, and even the food was good. I usually find ryokan fare and kaiseki vastly overrated and presented in that 'precious' Japanese fashion - so tedious sometimes. Ishidaya's was very tasty and well presented. We had our own outdoor bath and our own indoor bath, in a sepearet garden house all our own. The room had a slightly moldy smell to it, but hey, it's Japan. Wabi, sabi and kabi. But we felt very comfortable and the futons were wonderful. Fresh and new and crisply starched. If you think of the charges for an Aman room somewhere, where they throw a few plumeria in your bathtub and everything is so symmetrical you almost feel stiff, Ishidaya was not so expensive. Izu has stretches of glorious coastline, then in a second they become hideupus, and it's a repeat of that. The trick is to find a stretch that is still picturesque and not go too far. Ishidaya has no view and the ocean is far off, but it surprises - it's in a dull residential area and you cross a little bridge and suddenly - very pretty. The western landscaping (which you need to seek out in the rear), may need some 'good taste' - it looks a bit funky.

Reviewed By daniels372Nice property on beach in Shimoda that less expensive than most inn neighbors; tatami rooms have ample space and mod cons; bath and rotemburo on 3rd floor are standard - sauna included - not certain about water origin - and does have ocean view as do most rooms; ground floor directly connects to big beach area that has lifeguard and not crowded despite public access; however, food is brutally expensive - dinner for family more than an overnight, and while rooms clean it appears during COVID hit on hospitality industry to be operating at break-even amenity services. Nice stay but not exceptional; parking and bus service to station.

Amagiso has the biggest water fall named Odaru of Izu peninsula. You will fully enjoy the scenery of it and also the pleasant hot spring bathtubs you can soak into with your vending suits. Our open-air spa and inside spa areas have several bathtubs with never-ending 100 % natural hot spring from Amagi mountains. For our dinner and breakfast menu, you can enjoy seasonal and local ingredients cooked by Japanese style. This is Japanese inn of healing and relaxations.
Awesome Onsen at UNESCO Waterfall
Reviewed By AndraYoAmazing: Various hot springs baths in pristine surroundings while enjoying a gushing 30-meter waterfall, located in an UNESCO Geopark. The waterfall is Odaru Falls, the largest of the Izu Seven Falls. During the day, there are walk-in customers but the park closed around 5:00p.m. so only hotel guests could use the Onsen. It was lovely with the nighttime lightening, and we were the only people. BLISS! There are other onsen: large public bath, and around the corner is a lovely outdoor bath in 2 levels that over looks the mountains with the Kawazu Sakura. An adventure: The Cave Onsen with its almost hidden Fertility Symbols! The hotel is definetly older, but our room had been remodeled with a tatami bunk area over beds so everyone was pleased. Not so many amenities. The hallways lights had been hand crafted from sea glass, each one an original color and shape. Lovely! Not so many closeby restaurants, so Half Board is best. Japanese Kaiseki with the local Ise Ebi (sashimi and in the miso soup), dishes were colorful, plentiful, and interesting: Renkon manju (lotus), Duck and Burdock Rice, Fuji san beef fillet grilled, Basque Cheesecake. Breakfast was also served (not buffet). Loved that they provided an area in the lobby to get extra towels, very nice with all the onsen. The stairs are quite steep and many; they might be closed if heavy rain.

Very dirty
Reviewed By melodymavis311We are a big group of family. We plan to spend two nights at the hotel but we only stay for one night and throw away our money for the other night. We have four rooms altogether one big room for my parents. Two regular rooms and one room in the separate building far away from the other rooms for the kids under 13 to stay. Noone can speak english here. It’s very hard to communicate with them. Even we asked to stay near each other because we are coming as a big family, they still insist the kids must stay in that building which is awful coz it’s all food smell, the first floor of that building is restaurant the upper floor is hotel rooms. The restaurant is dark and shabby. Our dinner room in the restaurant has a spider as big as my palm and the giant ant running on the table. The food is just ok not that special. Service is poor and very slow. My parents’ suite room has rats running on the ceiling all night. It’s horrible!! My room is smelling damp and unpleasant because of a lack of fresh air. First thing I do when I got in, I have to open all the doors and windows but it doesn’t help. At the end I have go down to buy air freshener to spray in the room. It doesn’t help much. The basket in the bathroom has mold and very dirty. All the closet and refrigerator cupboard are very smelly. I can smell the even the doors are close. When I open I saw the cupboard is very dirty and has mold in some spots. The onsen in the room is not hot at all. The air conditioner is not working properly. We all did not have a good sleep. There is unfinished cleaning in my sister’s room. There are trashes beside her bed that they didn’t clean up and the cup is unwashed. I cant believe it!! So in the morning we hurried check out and moved. We reported all these problems to hotel front using phone translation. They just say sorry and still charged us for two nights!! What a nightmare and horrible experience...

Reviewed By tokyo2whiterockAbout a two hour train ride away from Tokyo station, a fantastic Japanese inn with hot spring. Our room had a hot spring in our room which was great. Definitely recommend this place to get away from the city and just relax. The food was great as was the service.

Reviewed By Stormville99Pros: This hotel's view is so incredible. We enjoyed the view from our room and the restaurant and each time took our breath away. The staff were very attentive and even gave small gifts to our children. The Japanese style rooms were lovely and the futon beds on the floor were very comfortable. The onsen was relaxing, well maintained and family friendly. Cons: We were a little disappointed to find all the pools drained during our stay. We were hoping the kids could enjoy the indoor pool but it was empty. Also the beach at the bottom of the hotel had quite a lot of rubbish on it. Plastic and rusted parts all over the rocky beach. It didn't seem safe for children. Maybe a beach best to look at from the hotel, but not visitors up close! We still loved our stay though.

Reviewed By SassasanI stayed here with my wife for 2days. First this hotel has good quality and all staffs are courteous. Every meal made us so happy, especially the grilled abalone was excellent. My room was ocean view, it might probably be all rooms have ocean view. So beach is so close to this hotel. After you can enjoy playing on the beach, you can return the hotel and take a bath immediately.

Reviewed By Auguste NIt was a pleasant and relaxing visit to Izu hot springs. The city is smaller but so many beautiful things to visit. I advise you to walk around (it is really safe) and to visit the Japanese mask museum. 900 masks.

Reviewed By denny0817Free transportation between hotel and train station. 3 public hot springs in 2 buildings. There are sea view in the old building. The dinner and breakfast are so luxury. The price for extra alcohol is very reasonable.
