Love the horseback riding

Reviewed By juliebB8175LC

Remote and authentic, amazing food. The look of the buildings was a bit disappointing, because the word "Hacienda" conjures up something grand in my mind. The rooms were simple but I was comfortable. My room had an amazing view. They have a huge gorgeous property. I went horseback riding with my friend and the guide from the ranch. He was very nice and kind regarding my lack of experience. I felt safe and comfortable. We went all around the gloomy, misty hills. It was really amazing. The food was exceptionally good. I would only want to go for one night though. Very remote. The only problem is they reneged on some arrangement with the owner of our travel company (who was with us). The argument delayed us for an hour and made the day we left a bit stressful.

Hosteria San Jose de Sigchos

Great for kids and family

Reviewed By Mila C. G

I've just spent a wonderful weekend at Hostería San José de Sigchos. Highly recommended hostería in Cotopaxi only 2:30 mins away from Quito. Sigchos is located in the Andes Highlands near the Illinizas reserve, before the road descends to the Ecuadorian coast. The views you experience here are unparalleled. We enjoyed: fantastic food, warm pools and spa, horseback riding, ATVs, hicking, Holstein Dairy Farm tours and Angus Cattle Farms tours. But most of all, we enjoyed being outdoors, surrounded by nature, family and peace. Great place to disconnect.

Cafe Review Only

Note, I did NOT stay in the hotel. On several occasions, however, I enjoyed either a morning coffee or a lite afternoon snack and coffee in the front cafe. I found the atmosphere to be relaxed and welcoming. The staff was pleasant and professional. Coffee is decent for Ecuador (don’t expect European-style standards).

Not enough staff

Reviewed By anunezz

This place has great views and rooms felt pretty luxurious, food is good. I would have liked it more if the owners staffed it better. They had one guy checking people out and in, cooking, serving, making drinks, booking excursions. He was in a terrible mood and was not hospitable, I don't blame him because if I was doing the work of 3 people I'd be mad too. It took away from the experience.

Good value lodge with rustic charm

Reviewed By melodyong1

We stayed here for one night as a couple in September 2021 after hiking Quilotoa Lake. Although the owner and staff members do not speak English, and we only spoke very limited, poor Spanish, they showed us great hospitality, and were pleasant and accommodating. In terms of price, Runa Wasi is one of the more affordable ones in the area. We paid approximately $40 USD for a room with a double bed and ensuite bathroom. Even as a Canadian, I have to say, it does get VERY cold at night. There is an old fashioned fireplace in the room, that the owner and staff members came and helped start for us, when we needed it. I believe there were at least 4-5 blankets/comforters for the bed, also as another means to keep warm. The shower was unfortunately cold. The hot water only stayed on for about a minute or two before it was cold again. I was a bit disappointed by this as I was looking forward to a hot shower at the end of our hike. Dinner and breakfast is included in the price. The meals were good, and it was your standard Ecuadorian food (meat, rice, salad for dinner / eggs, bread, fresh fruit, fruit juice and coffee for breakfast). However, the portions were quite small. WiFi is fast and reliable in all parts of the lodge. Overall, Runa Wasi is a charming lodge for great value. I would recommend this lodge if you are looking for budget-friendly options.

A good value

This hotel is in Coca which is the starting point for a Yasuni amazon adventure. Rooms cost around $20.00 and are very sparse. No blankets and most of the light fixtures did not work. It seemed relatively safe. You have to remember you are not in the United States and things work a little differently in most parts of the world. If you are looking for American standards, you will be disappointed.

Absolutely gutted

Reviewed By JJ064

Unfortunately this time I have to write a bad review, having never previously done so preferring to speak directly if something needed improvement however this message needs to be spread far and wide so others don't have their holiday curtailed in the way we have. We decided to stay at Princess Toa in order to support the local community. We had half board there so were gone from our room for both dinner and breakfast. We were on a high from such a great experience trekking in the area and treated their place as we did other wonderful accommodation in the area, leaving our valuables locked in the room with all windows latched. Big mistake. We were the only ones staying there. Issues with hot water meant we had to go over to the restaurant to get help otherwise it was deadly quiet. During breakfast (called for earlier than planned the previous night) one of the staff (we only ever met two men) accessed our room and stole our money. It was a considerable amount as we knew cash was the only way to go in the country especially the places we like to go. I thought that the staff would have received training as a community organisation. We know it was an inside job. Our money was there when we arrived, stayed in the room and wasn't there when we departed. We have been to the police in Lacacunga to file a report. Disappointing in so many ways as we had been loving our time in Ecuador.

Our hostal is situated in the center of Latacunga, nearby the Vicente Leon Park. With a long tradition of hospitality, the hotel has welcomed guest since the 1920th years. All rooms have private bathrooms with hot water. You can reach all points of interest by feet in less than 20 minutes. The food we serve is done with regional products and we offer drink water your whole stay long. If you would like to visit the Quilotoa Loop we recommend our sister hostal "Cloud forest" at Chugchilan. We also can organize excursion to the Vulcan Cotopaxi, to los Nevados Ilinizas and to the different traditional markets, including the most important of Saquisili.

Excellent Budget Option

Stayed here November 2019, had a large private room for 16 dollars off season. Place was very central to restaurants and stores, very clean, hot showers, fast, free WiFi, comfy bed and serves a full, hot breakfast with eggs, fruit, fresh juice and rolls. The staff is super friendly and helpful, though they do not speak much English. I don’t mind as my Spanish is passable. They also have a tour desk, but again, no English. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
