its a grand hotel with superior service. I just wish they would actually show the actual view of the room. We booked a Jacuzzi Junior suite that showed an unobstructed view out the window. But when we got to the room, we were window level to the next building and can see the laundry hung out to dry. The view was also obstructed with power poles and wires. One would expect truth in advertising for the money you would spend for the room. Putting the misleading advertisement, the service is actually excellent as the staff do try to address you by name, provide what you request immediately, and do so with a smile. Don't be late for dinner for the Japanese beef course is very good, you won't leave the table hungry. Breakfast you are given the option of either a Japanese or Western breakfast. Depite being short staffed due to current situation (Covid, lack of tourists, etc) the service provided is still top notch.

=Glamorous Japanese style accommodation at ancient Hida-Takayama Japan= * The hot spring from Jindai spring gushes from 1200m underground. It is one of the few hot springs among the local accommodations. Its attractive spring quality feels like a rich beauty serum. If you touch your skin in the spring, you will feel the smooth silky texture. This particularly appeals to guests who love moist smooth skin and makes them visit again and again. * We serve you the very best out of the great variety of local fresh foods with Hida local sake according to the seasons. Wagyu Hida Beef Steak is the most popular main dish. Our selected beef supplier brings the finest quality Hida beef to us. The local Hida beef is famous for its marbling pattern but has no extra fat, and its texture is so soft it almost melts in the mouth. The cooking method for Hida beef varies including steak, shabu-shabu and sukiyaki. Dinner is the KAISEKI(Japanese traditional course meal).

Stayed 2 nites at this ryokan. Staff was friendly and efficient from Day 1, especially Atsushi. Most staff speak English. A nice property with both indoor and outdoor onsen. There’s a shuttle bus that runs between the train station and the ryokan which makes it very convenient for all guests. Food was good too.

Highly recommended if you visit Takayama

We loved Takayama Green Hotel. We stayed 2 nights to visit Takayama and Shirakawago. The hotel is beautiful and big, wonderful to walk around. We stayed in the new wing, Orinkaku. Very nice! Beautiful and modern. The room was super comfortable. Dinner for both nights was Japanese style. Loved it! We can view their beautiful Japanese garden. You can also sit in the lounge and enjoy that garden. The breakfast was buffet in the modern wing. Very nice place and great buffet. The onsen must be the best in town. They have indoors and outdoors, sauna, and bubble style baths. Really spacious and awesome onsen. We came during Golden Week so the place was full, however we never felt the hotel to be crowded. They absorb their guests very well. Plenty of parking. Nice, friendly service throughout. Check in and out were super smooth. One thing was missing, a game room for the kids. We highly recommend Takayama Green Hotel.

Disappointed by this hotel

The publicity over promises and the hotel under delivers. The staff are courteous and generally helpful, and the location convenient. But the hotel is expensive for what is offered - a small double room with the bed against the wall making it difficult for one partner to get in and out of bed. Tiny bathroom. Dark, worn onsen for women - quite unlike the publicity photos (which are of the men’s onsen when it was new - now dingy and dark too). Very ordinary breakfast, especially for the price. No inroom safe. We have had better hotels throughout Japan, and would not recommend this one.

Lovely Ryokan Hotel near JR Station

Reviewed By Irene S

Saw mixed reviews of this ryokan hotel but decided to go ahead since it's near the JR Station (within 5min walk). Great hospitality, free umbrellas for use when it's raining/snowing heavily. Best part of the hotel would have to be their private onsens. There are 3 private onsens to choose from. For the courtesy of other guest's usage, it is advise to only stay up to 30min for a session (which is good enough). It's clean, cosy and there is also complimentary coffee/tea at the reception area for any one who is waiting to check-in or out. Given its affordable price, location and amazing hida beef restaurant just next door, definitely worth coming back again!

The Best of Ryokan Hospitality

Reviewed By Departure775485

This was our first time at a ryokan and it’s going to set the bar really high. As another reviewer noted, Oyado Koto no Yume embodies the best of hospitality. Right upon arrival, our hosts were warm and helpful. Would also note that the lady whom I think is the owner speaks very good English if necessary. I’ve noticed that the staff will also speak basic Japanese slowly if it’s clear that you’re learning the language and are struggling to speak it but trying—I really appreciated that :) You’re asked to take your shoes off upon entry, which being Asian, I love. I think the host also wiped down the wheels of our suitcases. This little place just goes beyond and above with all the nice things they offer additionally (price inclusive) to ensure you have a lovely stay. There’s a yukata service, where they let you choose a yukata to wear inside or outside, as well as plush coats hanging in the lobby area that you can borrow if it’s cold outside. They have aromatherapy burners with a variety of scents that you can choose, just ask the front desk for an aroma pot. The room itself was pristine and immediately instilled in us a sense of calm. There are little snacks waiting on the table, a fridge that’s actually a fridge and not a minibar so can actually be used by the guest, a full set of cups and plates along with a kettle and coffee pod machine, and the host will explain that you get sleep yukatas and specific face towels as well. If you have the Japanese-style room, the staff will make up your futon while you’re out. They left a sweet note on ours and also a put a pitcher of ice water on the table. It was these little touches that made our stay really pleasant and memorable. Would also mention that if you’re there longer, or it’s raining, there’s a small manga library downstairs and it looks like you can also do origami, which will get proudly displayed in a glass cabinet. There’s also a bathhouse and you can reserve a private one for a small fee. Staying at Oyado Koto no Yume felt like being a welcome guest at home. After we checked out, we were given a set of Takayama postcards as a gift. Would highly recommend you stay here if visiting the charming town of Takayama, and experience the best of Japanese hospitality. I can’t wait to go back. ありがとうございました~

Great Location and Decent Accommodation

Reviewed By thetravellinghopia

Country Hotel Takayama is the perfect home away from home in Takayama, Gifu Japan. This hotel is located right across the Nohi Bus Terminal which is right beside to Takayama Train Station. When you get off from the bus, you will immediately see the building. Aside from their perfect location, this hotel also has a KONBINI (are Japanese convenience stores) Family Mart at the ground floor, open 24 hours. Morning markets, Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, Old Town Street, Hida Kokubunji Temple and Nakabashi bridge are a few tourist location you can easily access by walking (10-15 minutes) from the hotel. I was here last February 24 to 26, 2020. The room is quite spacious for me, got a single room type but I think it can accommodate 2 people in it. I was able to booked it online through Agoda.com for Php 4,024.78, not bad! It has complete basic amenities you can find in a room including a comfy sleeping robe. Room is super clean and smells so good. Considering I wrongly booked the smoking type room. The only downside I had about the room was that the heater was broken. It was so hot inside, thanked God it was winter time so I just slightly opened my window. So cold breeze from the outside can get in. Overall, Country Hotel Takayama is HIGHLY RECOMMEND aside from their perfect location. Staff are very good, speaks English and really helpful and accommodating. Their Manager helped me booked a taxi who is going to picked me up at the highway on my route to Gujo Hachiman. Because taxis in Gujo Hachiman are booked a day before your arrival and they don’t speak English at all. And If you’re a Filipino, you are most likely going to bumped into one of our kababayan who is working on this hotel. So far, she’s the only Pinoy here and she speaks Bisaya, from Davao City. I hope this help post helps you in your future travels to the beautiful City of Takayama.

Refreshing stay

We traveled with Gate 1 group so we didn't pick the resort, the location is outside of the city but it didn't create any inconvienance for us since we had our tour bus. The resort was a little complicated to get around, if you like to experience the onsen bath (who would miss it anyway?) a long walk from your room and you have to change the elavator. The day we arrived, they did the check-in on the bus, which is quite efficient, but did have to waite for a while (15-20 minutes) for the elevator since one is not working. The room was comfortable, clean, and nice size with a good view of the town. The yukata was provided for the onsen bath. Diner wasn't provided by Gate 1, but we have some local delicacies brought back from town, it took care of it. You can make tea or coffee in the room. Breakfast was edequate and delicious, mostly Japanese style. The courtyard and the decoration are quite zen and pretty. The staff was very friendly. Overall it was a very refreshing stay.
