Another fabulous ski holiday with Ski Miquel

Reviewed By dianelA3108SB

We had such an amazing time at Chalet Rosa at the beginning of March. We travelled with Ski Miquel. The staff were amazing, friendly, welcoming and helpful, the food was superb. The ski guiding was so enjoyable and enabled us to travel to the various ski areas without having to worry about how to get there etc. The skiing itself couldn't have been better. Beautiful surroundings and plenty of lovely quiet slopes for every ability. Another very successful and enjoyable holiday with Ski Miquel. Highly recommended.

Gruyere Rooms

Location

Reviewed By Killindy

This place is right in the middle of the medieval village of Gruyeres, with shops, restaurants and museums within no more than 5 minute walking distance. It has a store right underneath and a restaurant, Gruyeres Traditions, wall-to-wall where if you go to eat you get a 10% discount off your bill. We stayed on the second floor in the room facing the inner square. We had a gorgeous view of one of the gates (the one close to the restaurant and hotel Les Remparts) and the water fountain. The room was quite large, with a desk, double bed, single bed and open bathroom with sink, toilet and bathtub. The bathroom can have privacy if you draw the 2 curtains hanging in front of it but this will not keep the sound away. Oh, and sound travels through the air shaft so you might hear other people. The bathtub was huge-wide and deep, could easily fit 2 people in it. You just need to be careful when you shower because even though they have tiles on the floor and on the wall around it, it is all on wooden structure and water may infiltrate. We had towels and soap both at the sink and bathtub, plenty of toilet paper and a hair-dryer. The whole room was quite clean, the only thing that caught my eye was the side of the curtains from the bath facing the inside of the bath-had some stains. One important thing to keep in mind is that this building is, I guess, an old wooden structure, all of it. So when you go up the stairs they squeak, when you more around the room it all squeaks, the bed squeaks. When a heavier person walks above, you hear as if a rhinoceros is moving above you. As with regards to having intimate relations in that place...you either do not care that others hear everything, or that you might hear everything others do, or you just try to be as silent as a mouse and pray your neighbours will be too...Even though we stayed just 1 day and 2 nights, they came and made our beds. The lady who gave us the key was really nice, could speak to us in English. In case you arrive after 6PM you should let her know in advance so she could leave the key and instructions at the restaurant. When you leave, you just lock the room and leave the key in the post box on the hallway (it is written on it).

One of the best places to stay and enjoy the amazing mountain atmosphere in Belalp, Switzerland. We were around 20 people and they've managed us amazingly. The food is great, the hosts were super friendly and very attentious with everything. The rooms were cozy and vintage oriented..and the views in the morning...what a pleasure! We had a great experience: we danced, smiled, we felt in love, just like being at home. We'll book again for sure, I've never felt I could have such welcome place around.

What a pity

The reason for only 2 stars I will come to in a moment. The site is in a fantastic location in a valley surrounded by huge mountains with easy access to cable cars and signed walking / cycle routes. The scenery is breathtaking. Most of the plots are spacious with a couple of crystal clear streams running through the site. The toilet / shower blocks are modern and spotless. Staff are friendly, the shop is very well stocked but very expensive although this is Switzerland ! The reason for only 2 stars - We booked this site on a Saturday and arrived 2 days later on the monday to find there were substantial groundwork’s going on with 2 large trenches 1 going across the campsite and the other down a lot of the middle. At 7am on all 3 days we were woken by a digger, dumper truck and a ground compressor which were very very noisy. When we returned to the campsite on each day they were still at work with the same noise. They finished at around 5pm. O the first morning I did complain stating that they really should state the current work on their website. I was told it did state this on the website but was removed before they realised the work needed to go on for a further week, I received what seemed like a begrudging apology and told she would ask her boss to see if they could give us a reduction in the rate. Two days later we left with no further comment or reduction in the rate. It wasn’t really about the money it was just so disappointing to have the horrendous noise around you when the surrounding mountains are so quiet and peaceful. If it wasn’t for the work and the seemingly complete lack of awareness or understanding from the staff I would have given this site 5 stars

Welcoming and well located

This hotel is a bit longer walk from the station but a very direct route on a pedestrian only street. It is on a very quiet side street and we had a large clean, comfy suite with a kitchen. We bought food at the grocery for our breakfast. There is no elevator but we were walking everywhere so the stairs just added to our daily steps! The hotel is in a good location in the old town. We went in different directions each night to find restaurants for dinner and there were lots of options.

Avoid - if only for the unsafe check in

Reviewed By Linders83

Start with a positive Good location next to the Messe and near the tram stop. However... I knew it was “self-check-in” but didn’t realise that meant fumbling for my passport details and my wallet while stood in the dark on the street corner. Surprised no local criminals have worked this out yet. That one fact alone should mean no-one should ever stay there. Room was basic which was what I would have expected. Clean but sink blocked. Venue were happy to take the City Tax but didn’t give me my Basel Card so I had to pay for the tram back to the station in the morning. Avoid.
