Guess the island has not learned about service yet. After reading in a magazine that this is Sansibars sister we decided to give it a try although the menu doesn't look to spectacular. Even got a booking on a Friday night outside. Upon arrival the service greeted us in a very rude way. When we said we'd like to have a look they said we have to ask for permission. When we said we have a booking outside they said they would give us a nice table inside. So we decided to go and leave our money at Sansibar which has better service and food for the same price. While leaving the manager gave us a rude comment.

We were there in February 2016.. It was awesome! It's a little multicultural restaurant in the centre of this amazing island! The food is Mediterranean and the prices are absolutely affordable! The owner is a crazy guy but very polite and courteous.. We were very surprised that the waitress served us in English as well. Altogether.. It was an enjoyable evening and when we come back to Germany we will definitely visit this restaurant again! Greets from the other side of the world to all of them!

It was our third visit in the Old Friesenstube in the last two years and again we had an excellent dinner in the heartful atmosphere of one of the oldest restaurants in Westerland. Try the "Friesisch Fischpfanne", it's delicious! And don't miss the wine list with many of Germany's best Rieslings.

Friendly, attentive (and funny) waitress - nice and relaxing atmosphere, we spent a great evening with our friends! The menu is not to big but noone had problems to find the perfect food-match.Personally I loved the tempura tuna roll as a starter which I shared with a friend. The wine menu shows - it does not always have to cost an arm and a leg, great wine and not expensive (considering the sylt-factor:-))Book a table in advance and try the daily special!

The interior is farm style homey and inviting. Not to comfortable though. The food was a bit of a disappointment. The white fish overcooked and stringy rather than flakey. The samphire, popular in Britain, was salty bitter and a good combination with raspberry. Celeriac puree was ok but not velvety. The open wine, a Sangiovese was just ok. Decor over food. Not bad overall but won't return.

Ate in the attractive garden following an enthusiastic welcome. Service of highest standard throughout. The standout was the halibut, brilliantly cooked; but all the fish was good, the sauces delicate and well made. A really good holiday evening in a memorable setting.

Kaamp Meren

The terrace dining is pleasant. There are only a few tables inside. We called a few restaurants in Kampen and had trouble getting a reservation anywhere else so we called here. Their personnel is young and inexperienced. When we asked if they could take our party of three they said they were all booked up in the restaurant until 8 pm. To eat out on the terrace we could just show up and see if we could get a table which we did not want to take the chance for. Then we called again to take the 8 o’clock time and the young lady told us that we should just come on over as a lot of people were done eating. When we got there at 7:30 fully half the tables on the terrace were empty. The personnel just does not have their act together. When we were ordering I asked the waitress what she recommended and she said everything was good. Only after ordering did we see there was a blackboard with specials of the day on it. I asked the waiter what “Kaamp Meren” means and he didn’t know, said it was just the name. The food was just okay. The salad however was excellent.

Manne Pahl has been an institution in Campen for several decades now and a reservation is a must. Still, the food is good, the service friendly and efficient, and the place continues to feel "local", not uncomfortably snobby and overflown with "in"-people (or those who think they are)
