We were fully prepared to bash these guys because some of the reviews look suspicious.
But... it's actually true!
The Rechen has very honest, very tasty food in good portions and at a good price. We had Jägerschnitzel and Forelle Müllerin (traditional German Gasthof food), followed by a Kaiserschmarrn (indeed delicious). All in a relaxed environment and served with a smile. They also have a schnapps distilled locally (which we took home).
It was such a nice experience that we went back two days later and had the exact same dinner again :)
If you go early (around 7ish), make a reservation, the place was full on both nights we were there.

It is typical bavarian restaurant with perfect cleanliness, very tasty meals with outstanding quality of food. The staff is willing and you'll wait only for a while.

Red wine schorle, 0,5l for under 5€ at a premium location right at bismarkplatz is indeed a fair value. I was there during jazz weekend, of course the staff was very busy and took longer to deliver, but still attentive amd friedly. Good value for money!

Wir waren hier schon das 2. Mal und haben wieder sehr gut gegessen. Preise absolut in Ordnung für die Region. Tolles, reichhaltiges Salatbuffet. Übersichtliche Speisekarte. Rinderschmorbraten schön rosa. Außenterrasse liegt zwar an einer Straße, diese ist aber nicht übermäßig befahren. Wir kommen wieder, es schmeckt uns und gefällt uns hier. Familienfreundlich - extra Kinderkarte zum ausmalen und Spielzeugkiste!

Traditional home cooked food with delicious fresh beer. This restaurant is small and kind of hidden behind a tree. Our hotel recommended we eat here and we were glad we did. I had a New York Strip Steak (Rump Steak) with fried potatoes (brat kartoffel) and a yummy salad. My husband had the Weiner Schnitzel (Schwein) with french fries (Pommes) and a salad.

Sitting by the Schwarzer Regen eating a wonderful spaghetti and a glass of red wine made this an enjoyable visit. The restaurant was very busy. We were a little later than planned and it was already time for the coffee and cake customers.

We had lunch here twice on our recent visit to Bodenmais. The pizzas were very good. I also tried a pasta dish which was good. Very generous portions. The staff were very friendly and remembered us.

We never miss an opportunity to visit this excellent restaurant and we are obviously not alone as there are always lots of tables occupiedby locals and visitors. Situated across the road from the forest railway station and about 5 minutes walk from the centre of town it is traditional in decor but the food ranges from traditional to modern. Try the salads or as I do make sure the main course you choose comes with a salad and the dressings are wondeful. The service is friendly and good to see them in the traditional "Dirndles".

Good quality food in the traditional Bavarian Style. Reasonable parking area. Sunday lunch time is very busy and it can be hard to find a table. Peak time 11.30 to 13.00
