I really liked this place! The breaded fish filet was really delightful. I think you should get the fish options instead of any of the other meats. The place could use some improvements such as better service. I waited a long time for some water and sauce for my fish. Good place to stop though!

Da Mon Key

We went here for lunch and shared the nachos. It was plenty for 2 people to share. The carnitas was tender, the salsa & guac was great, and the real cheese was melted on (wasn't any b.s. cheese sauce). It really hit the spot after a long hike. They have big screen tv's behind the bar. A soccer game was playing while we were there. Open air restaurant has nice atmosphere. Good location, in the heart of Mal Pais. Would have loved a t-shirt because their logo is cool, but they were out of shirts.

El Shrimp Shack

Reviewed By TravelinGal147289 - Esterillos Oeste, Costa Rica

When taking care of business in Puntarenas we always look for a new restaurant to try and El Shrimp Shack did not disappoint. It's the launching point for the Calypso cruise. Very nice welcoming courtyard and inside was reminiscent of an East Coast seaside town. For folks stopping in CR on a cruise, I would recommend a visit here to get a sense of the real Costa Rica as the restaurant is just a few blocks outside of the busy downtown area. It's on the water and although the menu is limited, they sounded very appealing. We chose the Shrimp Burger with Special Chips because it was different. It was unbelievably good. I don't know how they bound it together, but all we could taste was chunks of chopped shrimp and the very tasty seasonings. It was a very generous patty served on an equally tasty bun and the fries were fresh, homemade and battered. I seldom eat fries, but I passed on the bun and devoured those! Others have raved about the Shrimp Burger and it certainly should be something you should try. Additionally, the restaurant isn't far from the fishermen's market where there are numerous vendors selling all types of seafood. Our waiter, Nelson, did a fine job of attending to our needs and directing us to the market as well. So you can try to make your own burger, but I doubt it will be as good as the one from El Shrimp Shack. Enjoy!

Es Un Pequeño Restaurante Pero La Comida Es Exquisita Y A Un Muy Buen Precio.

I visited the place too manny times always enjoy the food which is really good and fresh. But I dont feel they deserve 5 stairs becuase the facilities are really poor and the service is way too slow. But still the prices are really high... In a normal day a place doesnt invest on infrastucture their prices are low.. This place is really ugly with no class at all. If you are looking for good food this is the place... If you are looking a nice place you better stay away from here.
The restrooms probably worst than any city market restroom really disgusting...

After many years of absence because I'm not living in Costa Rica, I returned to dinner at this Restaurant and the surprise was very pleasant. The place attractive modern, and very broad menu and exotic dishes. Knew him almost since opening and the effort paid off. Now those who have taken over, have been proposed to maintain the quality of their food. If you go to Puntarenas, this restaurant will fill your expectations of Chinese food. Highly recommended.

Las Delicias del Puerto

We stopped here for lunch after the ferry. The menu is extensive but we wanted something quick and cheap so we chose burgers. They were really good, great flavour, flame grilled? The chicken in the Scooby doo burger is the only chicken I've had in our 10 days on Costa Rica that hasn't been overcooked! Definitely a good find for lunch.
There is a chap on the street ushering you in which is a bit odd/unwelcome.

We've been going to Matope's for years and the pizza never disappoint. The restaurant is on the main street along the beach and caters to beach goers as well as residents. The owner is committed to sustainable energy and has installed solar panels - one of the few places in Puntarenas. I've paid with credit card with no problems. Matope's opens at 5:00 and is closed on Wednesday.

The thinly sliced Prosciutto on our pizza was delicious......maybe the best pizza we ever had! The crust was tender, but crisp. We found the restaurant to be clean and the service was great. Our medium pizza arrived in a short amount of time with our drinks! Not being familiar with San Vito we had a little trouble finding the restaurant....but sure glad we did!

We were on a cruise through the Panama Canal. Sadly most of our ports didn't afford us the opportunity to eat locally. But we finally found a place to eat in Punta Arenas.
The local draft beer is a wonderful accompaniment to their sautéed octopus and garlic shrimp. The owner is German and has been in Costa Rica for 28 years. We also had free WiFi with our meal, an added bonus.
The food was tasty and such a relief from cruise food! Wished we had more time and bigger stomachs to try more dishes

Right across the sea shore. Be sure to drink their milk shakes and if you have a sweet tooth then the Churchill with unlimited condensed milk and syrup is for you! The sandwiches and burgers are good. I would recommend casado instead of sandwiches or burgers if you like beans. I have tried their shakes in water and they are like fruit juice with pulp and taste really good!
