Mal Pais Freedom Riding SUP

Freedom Riding SUP Adventures was formed by Andy Seidensticker and his Costa Rican wife Edith. We started doing SUP lessons and tours five years ago in the fishing village of Mal Pais, taking clients all the basic fundamentals of SUP, and paddling clients into the Cabo Blanco Reserve. The business has grown quickly in the last couple years, and has now expanded into SUP rentals, clinics for all levels, and SUP adventure tours around the Nicoya Peninsula. We are passionate and true lovers of the sport of SUP and take teaching the sport very seriously. Edith competes on the Costa Rican National SUP Race Circuit, and has clinched the National Womens Champion two years in a row, in both long distance and short distance. Contact Freedom Riding if you would like to schedule a class, tour or rental for your next vacation.

Booking was easy, website was up to date and accurate. Andy and Edith kept communication a priority throughout the trip planning process and helped communicate what experience may be right for our group.
Day of the tour was amazing, the best way to catch a sunrise in Mal Pais! Edith and her daughter went out with our group and were wonderful. We had a mix of experienced and unexperienced and everyone went away with 2 hours of fun! Early morning booking is a must do, we were done by 9:30 and had the rest of the day to find adventure.

We arrived in Puntarenas on the Legend of the Seas. We hadn't done a great job planning an excursion for the day and met Roberto on the dock. We wanted to go on an aerial tram and see as much as we could. Roberto was our guide and his mom Ruth the driver. Roberto is well informed about the history of his country and what can be accomplished in a day tour. He was very respectful of the time we needed to be back on board for our departure.
Roberto asked if we'd like to see and feed some white-faced monkeys. We said "sure" and we were shortly escorted onto private property where about 50 monkeys greeted us. We had a blast feeding the monkeys and enjoying the family who lived on the property. Next we went to the aerial tram. The tram ride was fairly short however a guide escorted us through the property showing off the fauna, flora and animals.
Roberto offered to top off our day with a short tour of Puntarenas. His English is very good and his mom was a very good driver. Nice, clean van. The tour was great and the price was fair. We were all VERY happy with choosing Melendez Tours for our day in Costa Rico.
Muchas Gracias Roberto and Ruth....we hope to see you again on our next trip to Costa Rica.

This is a great little island if you want to do a true tourist event. The food, the gift shop, and the drinks are priced very very reasonable. You can rent an umbrella and two lounge chairs all day for an amazingly low price. The...MoreHi, We are glad you liked the island and that you found that the services and activities at the island are fairly priced. We will mention your comment to boat operators in order to have them anchor further from the beach. Thanks, Mario C.

Macaw Sanctuary Natuwa

Macaw Sanctuary NATUWA The Macaw Sanctuary Natuwa is a place that provides refuge and protection to the wild animals that have been victims of human actions, such as hunting, the extraction from their environments and the destruction of forest habitats. These actions within natural environments of wildlife increase their vulnerability and cause immense damage to the ecosystems. Many times, the result of removing so many animals from their habitats, are physical and psychological problems that are difficult to overcome. Many of these homeless animals find the necessary attention they need at the Macaw Sanctuary Natuwa to be able to live in captivity with dignity and to find the possibility to return to their natural environments.

Our small group received a tour from the co-founder Rodolfo, and he offered plenty of information about each of the species and Natuwa's conservation efforts for that species. It was beautiful and peaceful, and all of the staff and volunteers were friendly and openly shared their piece of jungle paradise. Easily one of my favorite experienced during our Costa Rican vacation. I'd love to go back and volunteer.

It was lots of fun... the Bridges are very bouncy but lots of fun... we giggled as we crossed over each bridge looking for all sorts of animals... we saw a poisonous dart frog which was pretty cool, various birds... it was a great time... Reserva Biologica Carara

A coastal rain forest park.

We walked around in Carara for a few hours on our last day in Costa Rica, and got there at the worst time of day for birding. Nonetheless, our guide had an eye for the small, easily missed birds that were still moving about. We had a wonderful time with our guide, discovering new birds, plants, and bugs. We got to see tiny white bats curled up in leaves, Macaws a-plenty, and were serenaded by Howler Monkeys on our way out. Definitely, a guide is recommended on a first (and maybe second or third) visit.
