Cliff Hotel Restaurant

Cliff Hotel does fantastic pizza. We paid the extra to have the thin and crispy base which was well worth it, We chose our own toppings and had a supreme type pizza. It was by far the best pizza in Pohnpei and one of the better pizza's I have had in a while. We went back for breakfast which sadly was a bit of a disappointment. I had the eggs benedict and the sauce was disgusting. It was like a hybrid cheese sauce instead of hollandaise sauce. The muffins were also really soggy. Therefore I would recommend pizza but not breakfast. The restaurant has a lovely garden setting but note that there is no view from this restaurant despite it's name.

KD makes good use of a wide variety of foods available in Pohnpei, including local food, which unfortunately not many restaurants in Pohnpei do. It's mostly Filipino dishes set out in a reasonably priced lunch buffet which includes iced tea that usually has the place packed (mostly with health professionals, since it's right down the street from the State Hospital, right past the Elementary School in Nett). They are also my favorite choice for catering on-island--large portions at great prices! It's a buffet, so don't expect much with service other than getting your glass of iced tea and the atmosphere isn't spectacular, but it's clean and a local favorite for a quick bite at a reasonable price. Get there early (11:30 to 12pm) if you want good parking!

Kia's Restaurant

This is the restaurant of the Yvonne’s hotel. It is mostly occupied during breakfast time because all hotel guests take their breakfast there. It is, however, not included in the hotel price. The restaurant opens for lunch and then closes until 5.30 p.m. for dinner. I did not see too many lunch and dinner items on the menu. Japanese breakfast is pretty substantial with tuna, sushi, eggs and rice. Omelets are rather ho hum. Once I had grilled pork with vegetables and rice for dinner and it was tasty. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but they did allow me to take my own wine into the restaurant. The restaurant is spacious and has a nice atmosphere. There are around two young women who work there who belong to the extended family of the hotel owner. They are all very friendly and helpful. Sometimes they have fruits they serve you free of charge. If you bring a fruit, they would even cut and serve it to you. I also saw a large bunch of bananas hanging just outside of the restaurant for anyone to eat from. It was a really nice gesture, I thought. There is Wi-Fi in the restaurant, which one can use with a prepaid card. There is free Wi-Fi in the lounge for hotel guests. Since I was a guest at the restaurant, I cannot answer the question if the restaurant guests can also go to the hotel lobby and use the free Wi-Fi.If you do not stay in Yvonne hotel, I do not think it is worth your while to go to this restaurant for meals because they do not have much of variety and they do not serve alcohol.

PCR Nantehlik Restaurant

I have not stayed at the PCR hotel, but I have been to their restaurant to have dinner. The food was pretty good. There was an air-conditioned dining area, but one could also sit at tables outside. It was nice to sit outside because it was closer to water, but the air-conditioning unit that was jutting out into the corridor was making too much noise. Then a little later there was loud music from across the lagoon, possibly from a car or from somebody's house. Few minutes later some people were practicing music in a near by room. So, we ended up going to the air-conditioned area where it was quieter.I had fish with garlic and my friend had curried chicken with rice. We both like our food. Many people go there for lunch because there is all-you-can-eat-sushi for a basic price. I have not done that.I bet it is really nice in the evening to sit on the porch and have a drink. I will definitely go back there to do that and hope I will catch a time with no noise.

Upstairs in the Namiki building down the hill opposite the Pohnpei State Governors building. Only open for lunch buffets at $8 per person including tea, modelled on the Kaselehlia diner format. Usually about 10 different dishes including soup, various asian stirfries, sushi/sashimi, and local sides (breadfruit, taro, yam) or rice. Food's usually not very hot by the time I get there.
