This place was terrific Every dish was full of amazing flavors. Great combinations. We had 2 vegetarians and they couldn’t believe how amazing their food was. Octopus. Calamari. Pork tacos. Potatoes. Iberian ham. It was delicious. And perfect Martini in a chilled pewter “chalice”. It was all amazing.

So as someone who travels almost every week of my life, I have the pleasure of dining out at some of the best restaurants in the country be at casual, fine dining or other. This evening, I had the pleasure of walking to Joeys restaurant from my hotel at the Westin in Ottawa and wanted to comment on my experience. My first challenge was when the bartender brought over my 6 ounce glass of red wine that I ordered. It seemed a little on the shall we say “light” side of 6oz and when I asked the bartender if he thought the same, he immediately challenged me asking if I already had a sip… Which I did not but found it quite insulting. To his credit, my second glass was definitely just over 6 ounces and so in the end that was settled. On another note, the three bartenders just did not have the zip and zeal you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. It’s a high energy, fun ambiance that without question has great food. Not once did any of them come up and ask me how I’m doing, how my meal was or where I’m from and really in watching them interact they spend a lot more time having fun with each other they did with the patrons at the bar. I say this only because I think it’s important for a restaurant like this to ensure that the bartenders are fully aware that interacting with their patrons at the bar is paramount to ensuring their guests are enjoying their dining experience and certainly this was not the case at this Joeys. On a positive note, on my way out Carissa (one of the managers) did sincerely ask how my meal and experience was and I was about to walk out took a pause and shared with her my challenge only because I do like this chain and think they should kick it up a notch around the bar seating area. It was really nice to see how sincere Carissa was in making absolutely certain that she would take action to ensure this situation/attitude is corrected as she absolutely values her guests experiences and I absolutely believe she is going to do that. In the end, the chicken was amazing, the ribs a little bit on the tough side, the bar scene somewhat sluggish but management top-notch!Hello Paul, thanks for the positive feedback! We're always happy to hear good things from our customers. Hope to see you again soon! - James (JOEY Rideau Assistant General Manager)
