Omodos Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Omodos

November 10, 2017 Sheron Bogner

Omodos (Greek: 'Ομοδος) is a village in the Troödos Mountains of Cyprus. It is also located in the Limassol District of Cyprus and is 80 kilometers from the city of Nicosia. The village produces a lot of wine and holds a wine festival every August. You can visit a 17th-century stone-built monastery via a cobblestone path and sample local wine for free at many outlets. You will also find a good mix of restaurants including traditional tavernas and a few modern bars housed in traditional buildings.

The Village Tavern

“The Village Restaurant” in Platres belongs to Agi Jacovides, the owner of Semiramis Hotel. I was amazed with the delicious cuisine of Agi and he was telling me that he is cooking everything by himself only. Nobody else helps in the kitchen. He is very passionate with his cooking which he learned from his mother he said. One can find mostly traditional Cypriot cuisine here and from what I found out from the little chat I had with other people, everyone likes it here. Prices are affordable and portions quite big. From what I have seen the Restaurant is very popular both with Cypriots who come to Platres by coaches and the restaurant is full each day, but also it is popular with tourists who come to Platres and enjoy his Cypriot cuisine. Mousaka costs 10 euro, Kalamari (squid) 8.50, Steak port chop 7.50, Koupepia –stuffed vine leaves 9 euro. A beer will cost you 2.50 euro and a carafe of wine 75ml costs 7.50 euro. I found the prices reasonable, and because everything used here is freshly cut I can strongly recommend it. Agi will do his best to have his customers happy. The view from the restaurant is panoramic, but the inside decor is also great.

We were a party of 9 and just turned up in the afternoon without booking. Nothing was too much trouble for the wonderful restaurant manager who despite being on his own expecting a quiet afternoon, served us delicious authentic food. Lovely restaurant with great views and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Platanos Taverna

Reviewed By Laurent J - Nicosia, Cyprus

My wife and I were touring the area of Lefkara and Katodhrys villages. At 12:30 noon we popped in to Platanos Tavern at Katodhrys for lunch. We had the option of sitting inside in the dining room or outside under the huge platanos tree. Given the prevailing summery weather at the time, we opted for the latter.
The environment was a lovely one under the platanos tree, bringing one closer to nature and so being conducive to the formation of a relaxed atmosphere. Besides, everything was clean, tidy and very well organised.
We were very lucky to find a table given that we had not reserved one! It is imperative to book a table in advance if one is going to Platanos Tavern on a Saturday or Sunday.
We both ordered chicken souvla and a village salad. Oh my God! That was the best chicken souvla we have had in our lives! It was simply delicious, superb. Furthermore, it was very well presented and the quantity was huge – four large pieces of souvla and three large potatoes; we could not eat it all even though we are big mouths. Additionally, the village salad was fresh and very tasty. Finally, we were offered four large pieces of a fried, creamy sweet that was very nice and included in the price. Service was fast and efficient.
Given the above and the very logical prices (€ 10,00 for the souvla dish and € 6,00 for the salad) the whole experience was excellent value for money.
Platanos Tavern is a very highly recommended place, we will call again!

A very welcome contrast to many-many restaurants at the seaside. A real authentic feel, beautiful surroundings and, above all, delicious food, especially the meat dishes - I think this was the first time were could sample pork, beef, lamb and chicken at the same time :). We were four adults and two children, and paid EUR 85 for a huge bowl of soup, two vegetable salads, five or six meat courses, and lots of homemade wine. And plenty was left to take away. Awesome!

We had meze for all. In general, food was tasty. It included several typical Cypriot cooked dishes. However, considering the variety, the type and cost of dishes and the quantity, the price of meze is high. Not a value for money place.
