What a pleasant surprise!
Reviewed By derykxlYakage in Okayama Prefecture, is a small town of just over 14,000 people probably best known internationally for its annual Samurai Festival. But was there in January of 2019 for a food event. I was booked into the Yakage-ya Inn and was rewarded with one of the most interesting hotel experiences of my life. The hotel (and associated hot spring bath) are constructed from a recently and beautifully refurbished building complex right on the San’yōdō. The original thick, rough-hewn beams are left in place, nicely offsetting the new wooden construction. It’s very evident that a lot of thought, care and money was given to this reformation, and the result is worth it. One cute point is that the door to my room (which was one half of an incredibly spacious cabin duplex) had no number, but was named. My room’s name was 南天, Nanten, or “heavenly bamboo”, or “southern sky”.) The hot spring bath is free for guests, and the included breakfast was a delight. Honestly, I don’t normally eat breakfast, but this meal was so beautiful I would have felt guilty letting it go to waste. For anyone planning to be anywhere near the area, I highly recommend making the trip out to Yakage-ya Inn.

Unique japanese experience in the mountains
Reviewed By lorainc210Aunsanbo was an amazing opportunity to relax and enjoy a traditional japonese experience in the middle of Japan nature. The house is located in a hill which gives it a advantegeous view to the mountains, the rooms are very cozy and simple and the details in the house make you feel very comfortable! The food is very good and the host are the kindest persons in our trip. Both husband and wife welcomed us and were very attentive our whole stay! Don't miss the opportunity to see some of the pottery work in the house :)

This guest house is a renovated traditional house over 100 years old. The traditional Japanese-style room has just replaced the tatami mats and you can enjoy the good smell of grass. It can be used as a base for excursions to Setouchi such as sightseeing trips to Naoshima and Teshima.

Reviewed By Connector803417直島に行く前日に利用させて貰いました！オーナーのYukiさんには、直島の情報から周辺のお勧めレストランまで色々教えて頂き、お勧め頂いたところは全て素晴らしかったです！ また宿も古民家を改修された作りになっていて、おしゃれ&快適な空間でした。 アメニティは全て揃っていて、ランドリーと乾燥機もあるのでとても便利でした。 場所は駅から少しありますが、事前に連絡すれば車で送り迎えして貰えますし、丘の上にあるので夜晴れていると星がとても綺麗に見えます。 1人から4人のグループでの利用もでも出来るので、旅行形態関わらずおすすめです！

Amazing dinner - beautiful location

Private beach, delicious 6 course dinner - sashimi , crab, simmered fish, octopus in jelly, small fried sole, snapper baked with tomatoes and garlic, assorted fried fish, freshly baked bread and as much rice as you can eat ... Beer or sake to order. After dinner - taken out onto pier to view luminescent plankton like fire works in the dark ocean. A beautiful spot. Would recommend for families, couples, foodies and combining with visits to other islands like Shiraishi.

Great Ryokan on the quiet Shiraishi island.
Reviewed By Khmer14We stayed there in late October which is outside the main season. It was fantastic. Very quiet not only in ryokan as we were the only guests but on island as well. Ideal place for anyone who wants to get away from it all. Our stay was organise by Amy Chavez, american writer and journalist who has been living on the island for more than 20 years. In the Amagiso we were looked after by amazing lady who is the owner of the guesthouse. We had very spacious, Japanese style room with shared bathroom and toilets. Everything was very clean. Close to Amagiso is( walking distance) is located the grocery shop which is very well stocked. Our stay at this ryokan and Shiraishi island were the highlights of our trip to Japan.
