Excellent location, woth easy access to a lagoon and a superb deserted beach. Loved the rooms and beds with down pillows Food was top quality Sri Lankan home style cooking, while the service on the whole simply delightfully efficient and courteous with a smile. We definitely intend to make the Villa a part of our next visit to this sublime island, a real paradise!

nice colonial villa

spatious room with all amenities available. Spotless clean and good bed. Fantastic meals. I stayed 2 nights and the manager, who was very welcoming discussed every meal with me, providing exactly what I asked for. My breakfastpacket for the airport was very well assorted too: Great!! I felt really treated as a good guest in this guesthouse. The large surrounding garden gives direct acces to the beach and at the other side is a birdwatching place that provides stunning views over the river. the roomleaflet gives a lot of things to do at the nearby hotel (on walking distant). During my stay it was rather noisy because of the fact that close to the villa a harbour was built, but once this is finished I am sure that a visit will be really a nice thing to do. The only real downsize for me was the fact that I had one villa for me alone, but the ajacent villa (also Sunbird) was hired by 10!! local men who left their wifes at home but brought a lot of booze. Not a good idea, because for me there was no place left around /in the pool or the garden as they took all in their possession. The manager and servant however tried their very best to keep me comfortable and even came to accompany me from my room to the restaurant part of the building.

Basic hut accomodation, unclear communication, rather pricey

Reviewed By Kyle H

We stayed at Kite Beach Villa in January. The huts are of a decent size, however, they are rather basic and in our case a bit dusty. If you are in Kalpitiya for Kite Surfing beware that you have to take a tuc-tuc to the good spots every time as the location is not optimal. We would have given 4 stars but due to unclear communication on the side of the owner, we ended up paying considerably more than agreed upon. We also didn't get a receipt for our stay, a first during our entire time in Sri Lanka.

Really Disappointed

Reviewed By specky_1IOW

We booked for 2 nights at the beginning of our 5th holiday in Sri Lanka. It was handy for the airport or would have been if they had actually been there to pick us up! Even though this had been confirmed with flight info given, they forgot. We soon found another taxi although this cost quite a few thousand rupees more. They did greet us with some juice but this was where the customer service stopped. The room was ok but the bathroom was a complete let down with black mould around the shower cubicle. The size of the pool is tiny compared with the photos on their advertising and I could actually touch both sides when stood in the middle! This didn't really matter though because they put something in it when we went out on the first evening which turned it black and we were told we couldn't use it. It was still like it the next day with no warnings around it to stop guests using it. The staff asked for cigarettes and even asked for more tobacco so they could all have a smoke! There were only one other couple there but when we walked over to the 'restaurant' our table from the night before still had not been cleared properly. The young guys who seemed to be running the place were nowhere to be found if you wanted anything. The menu was unimpressive and so we went to the 02 Restaurant in Marawella. The hotel arranged the tuk tuk and even though they knew we would be back at 9pm they had turned off all the lights in the restaurant/bar area so we couldn't even sit and have a drink to finish off the evening. This place could be so much better with some added customer service and a good clean. A fridge would also be an asset to keep a cold drink in if the staff can't be bothered to be about to look after you.

Alankuda Beach

The founders of Ulpotha, the highly acclaimed retreat in the heartland of old Ceylon (see TripAdvisor listing) together with a close friend renowned in the marine adventure and water sports worlds, have opened a unique and captivatingly quirky beach resort on the western peninsula of this tear-shaped island. Situated on an undiscovered and deserted two kilometer stretch of a pristine private beach, Alankuda Beach offers a truly relaxing, discrete and romantic getaway. The azure, warm ocean is almost always mirror-calm and welcoming during the months of October to May. The coastal waters offer the treasures of dolphin and whale watching as well as snorkeling over nearby spectacular coral formations. In addition there is deep-sea fishing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, kite and wind surfing. Alankuda Beach is situated 3 hours north of Colombo and just over 2 hours from the airport. There is a range of accommodation along the beach all managed by Alankuda Beach, so there is something for everyone.

Fake photos from other resorts!

Reviewed By hirschpeter1

We found this "resort" thru TripAdvisor. We were guided to booking.com and booked 2 nights. 70 € each night !!! We arrived after sunset on our motorbike and when we got there few dogs attacked us. After a while an old lady showed up and told us to wait for the manager who arrived after 20 minutes. Meanwhile we had time to face this extremely runned-down location. Nothing advertised was there. Swimmingpool - not there. The Photo was taken at another 5 Star resort where we stepped by the next day. WIFI? No. Was never available. Food and drinks? Not even water. The fridge hosts animals - see our photo. Mosquito net as advertised on the Photos? Not there because they were taken somewhere else. No hot water. And so on. We spoke to the owner on the phone and we were really upset. The "manager" took us to another resort to Dinner. Nevertheless the location itself is lovely and needs quite some Investment. Also the close beach is very quiet and far from anyone. If it would have had costs only 20 € we would not complain. Now we have to try get back the money because the resort works with fakes and lies. But maybe we have to sue the booking site one more time. What a disgrace!!!

The Villa Thalkatuwa

Amazing hospitality

Reviewed By Z6859DY_

we arrived at the beginning of April 2022. We wanted to stay for a few days, but stayed almost until the end of the month, during which we were out to see the central cities of Sri Lanka, and nowhere was there such a pleasant service as in this villa. Don picks up for free from the airport and even from the railway station in Colombo, takes us to the ocean in the morning, breakfast is included, the internet is excellent like nowhere else where we were in Srilanka. Every day we were asked when we want breakfast, lunch and dinner and what we want. We felt at home all month long. It was our best holiday ever.
