We were a large group of 12 from two extended families who met in the larger of the two Kegelbahn rooms down in the cellar one Saturday evening recently. We had the whole, large room to ourselves which was just as well as our party included two young little girls who really enjoyed themselves... loudly. The drinks flowed pretty consistently most of the evening which was great. Service was OK in this respect although we did have to remind the guys for for ordered items from time to time. The food was certainly very Greek, of course but we weren't entirely convinced about the quality. Most of us thought that the tzatziki was strange - it left a tingling sensation on the tongue but the restaurant didn't think that was a problem. We did... The ouzo platter as a starter for two was good - but we had to wait quite a while for the ouzo to turn up. For the main course I personally had a good sized portion lamb shank which had been prepared in a very traditional Greek way in the oven with a bean puree. The fish was also well prepared and tasty. The rest reported mixed feelings about their food except the two little girls who devoured their kiddies dishes quickly. The bowling part of the evening was great fun and generated a lot of laughter. Indeed, around 21:45 the owner came down and asked us to wind things up to avoid further disturbance to the guests in the hotel adjacent to the restaurant. All in all a fun evening and it's true that the owners were very tolerant with our international group.

Living in Alkenrath we are really lucky to have an authentic Greek restaurant on our doorstep - easily within walking distance to our home. This is particulalry useful as we often get so wrapped up in the food and drink ( particularly the Imiglkos Greek house red wine and shots of ice cold ouzo) that driving is completely out of the question. We are always warmly welcomed by the extended greek family from Drama who run the place. They offer all the authentic Greek cuisine - I like the little squid, tzatziki and the dishes with liver. But they really do offer an extensive and impressive menu.

Restaurant Elia

Reviewed By Eyekaytoo

After a busy day of work and supermarket shopping the family didn't fancy cooking at home. We made an ad hoc decision to try the Greek restaurant Elia in the Schlebusch suburb of Leverkusen. As we didn't have a reservation we weren't sure if they would have a table for us - and in fact on arrival, looking in to the cosy place from the cold outside it seemed to be jammed full of happy evening diners. Nonetheless we persevered and were pleased to receive a warm welcome from one of the busy waiters who apologetically offered our party of three a large table for 6 in a pleasant position. Great. This is something I rarely experience in restaurants in France - sitting at a decent sized table where I can spread out and feel comfortable. As we supped on our pre-dinner drinks including genuine ouzo on ice we elected to go for a large mixed plate of mezes (Greek starters) to get us started. This was a starter for two and was more than enough to fill us. At just off 20 Euro this contained many Greek treasures including tzatziki, taramasalata, aubergine salad, hummus, large Gigantes broad beans, thinly sliced and fried aubergines, large prawns and spicy green pepperonis. Delicious. For the main course I chose fried beef liver in a creamy Metaxa sauce (couldn't taste much Metaxa though) served with chips and a small amount of rice. My wife's little steaks were rather uninteresting, again served with chips and a small amount of tzatziki. My son ordered his standard Wiener Schnitzel - two large pieces which he valiantly tried to finish - and would have done if he hadn't eaten too many chips. There was a separate salad bar available for the essential vitamins. Yes, our main courses were dominated by chips - something I don't recall when we used to live in Greece. My glass of Naoussa red wine was OK as was my wife's glass of sweet Imiglikos red wine. The meal came to just over 70 Euro (including 50 cents for a small dollop of mayonnaise) which we thought wasn't bad given the size of our mezes dish. Pity that they didn't offer a post dinner drink to help us digest this substantial meal. Service was great throughout - probably the Komotini originating staff cringed at our attempts to speak Greek but they tolerated this and made us feel at home - as if in Greece. We'll be back!

Driving through town and stopped here for an early dinner and glad we did. Sat right down on arrival. Service was very friendly and attentive throughout the entire meal. Large selection of Greek dishes from starters to main entry. Had the moussaka and the portion was very large, could not finish it all. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Der Grieche is a neighborhood fast food place. They serve salads, pizzas, different sausages and fries and a variety of other items on their menu. I went there several times since I was staying just down the street from it. As fast foods go, it's great. I absolutely enjoyed their currywurst with fries. If you are hungry and want a fast meal, this place is for you!

Armed with a gift voucher for this Greek restaurant we booked a few days earlier for a table for our party of 4 adults, a teenager and 2 year old. On arrival and difficult maneuvering in the small, free car park we were warmly greeted and seated at a nice table for 6. A child's high chair arrived a little later. The drinks order was taken quickly. The adults also received a welcome free glass of ouzo which was a nice touch. The menu is extensive, authentically Greek and the prices are all reasonable. I chose the sardines (actually small fried fish on a bed of salad) followed by the lamb shank cooked with large broad beans. This came straight out of the oven and was piping hot. It was served with a salad. The other members of our family party also enjoyed their food - particularly the thin cut fried potatoes which were crunchy on the outside and still soft on the inside.Throughout our meal our two year old got increasingly restless and wanted to explore the place a bit. Typical of the Greek culture we learned to love when we lived in Athens, the staff took to her as if she was one of their family and helped to keep her entertained. We passed on the desserts as we were all too full after the main courses. At the end of the evening we all agreed that the food and Greek atmosphere here is really lovely. What we missed a bit was the proactive service from the waiters - we would have liked to have been asked whether we wanted more to drink throughout the meal and whether we would like dessert or after dinner coffee...
