Love love love this hotel. Set on the secluded area of Chuzenji Lake this hotel has the friendliest staff and excellent restaurant. The staff bend over themselves to help you with anything you need and the quality of food(see pics) and service is amazing! There is a hotel shuttle bus or a local tourist bus that takes you around Nikko visiting all of the amazing sites. The hotel is like stepping back in time but is by no means tired or worn, just very unique.

I stayed overnight with a group of 80 people, arriving at 7 pm. Week day night. The room is already assigned and we can go to our room right away without having to wait. The room's key was in the room. It was a j Japanese style. If you do not ask other wise the staff would come around 8-9 pm. to set up Futon and. Bed 4 U. But u can ask them to set up a bed on a standard box mattress. Air conditioning /or heater was new and control the room temp quiet perfect. It was -3 Celsius right now at 11 pm. There are typically, safe, fridge, hot/cold water tank in your room. It was old style hotel.,so don't expect bath room and toilet as usual-very small space toilet like u r sitting in a box. Dinner was really and I meant it . Fabulous, lots of variety to choose from. Free onsen / separate btwn /male /female, entertainment room ,,liberly.....very good indeed. Extensive range of food for dinner buffet.

Relaxing hotel deep in the mountains

Reviewed By LaJollaLady

From Nikko train station, they provided free shuttle to the hotel, and it takes around 50 minutes. This place is peaceful, and we got a view bath room with breakfast and dinner included. The best part is the relaxing indoor and outdoor hot springs. Dinner portion was a bit too much for me, and you need to dine at a designated time.

Disappointing

I stayed a night in the dormitories of Simplest Nikko, in August 2020. Dormitories are all-new so I was expecting something nice. Location is also really nice, 10 m from the lake. But I was very disappointed. - Check In : very poor organisation, waited 30 min. Only one person to check-in several families. - Bed : I paid way too much for dormitories where you have to basically do your ENTIRE bed. The futon quality is bad, the sheets are not very nice at touch. - Baths (public) : The inner-bath has a very strong suffer smell. Be prepared. The outside bath was disgusting. The water was green instead of blue. Seaweed on the bottom of the bath at some places. Hair floating etc. - Wifi : The dormitories have 6 Wi-Fi hotspots. None of them was working from my bed until 10pm. - Breakfast : Definitely not worth the 1,100y. - Shared area dormitories : No efforts put in this area : so depressing / gloom. Overall : non very professional. Way too expensive for what it is.

I should have stayed at Kashiwaya Ryokan

Reviewed By Canmaninjapan

The title says it all, and two stars is being kind. The place should be shut down, unfortunately. Too little maintenance done and too much needed. On a one month road trip, this place was our only disappointment. Yes, the use of the private bath and the Cyress bath were nice...and yes, dinner was adequate inthe sense that they, the staff, tried to do what they could, but, yuck. Too old, like a pro athlete in their last year, it is time to retire. Shiobara has a lot of nice hot springs. The second night there we stayed at Kashiwaya Ryokan , a family run, older hot spring inn that had many private baths, excellent friendly service, and peaceful location. It wasn't fancy and some might call it "rough", but the place had an awesome ambiance and I will surely go again. I should have stayed there for both nights. Sorry.

A Morning Surprise

Reviewed By freeamac

We arrived at the View Palace Hotel during a pouring rain early in the evening. First impressions were of an average Japanese hotel with an efficient and quiet staff helping guests into an average hotel room. Dinner at the hotel restaurant features French themed fare. Pleasant for a single night but it would be overly repetitive if staying several days in a row. The onsen was very good. Small but clean and open to the, unfortunately rainy ni ght. The next morning dawned brilliant and sunny. An amazing view from our hotel room balcony of the plains below. A walk around the grounds of the hotel revealed an equally beautiful view. The location and scenery is what lifts the View Palace Hotel above average.

3 Different and Wonderful Onsens

Reviewed By SandBTokyo

We stayed in the forest villa building of the hotel. Many buildings for this hotel. Oriental Garden seems to be the nicest. Forest Villa was pretty good. Room view was forest, and we were right down the hall from the onsen. There are 3 onsens you can visit; Main building is the biggest unfortunately many of their saunas were closed, Forest Villa was small however very nice and Oriental Garden's onsen was the most relaxing. Try all three! The pool was closed when we went. Room was clean. Hotel is clean. We ate the buffet at Forest Villa for dinner and breakfast. It was good. Service in this hotel is great. Very friendly. Good place for families to stay. Beautiful place to stay if you are in Nasu.

Good hotel for all kind of tourist

Reviewed By Katsushi T

Enjoyed staying at this hotel for 2 nights. The room was large enough for 2 people. The hotel staffs were nice, willing to help us enjoy staying. Because of the busy season, only the buffet style meals were available when I booked the hotel. The quality of the food was very good, but I wish I could choose different kind of food on the second day. The key of the room was not a card key and the hotel gave me only one key. It would be more convenient if the key was a card key and gave us 2 keys. The view outside of the room window was excellent filled by large forest and Nasu mountains. Although there are several things to improve, the hotel was good overall.

We Were Treated Like Royalty

Our 5 night stay was amazing! This hotel and area just beautiful and the surroundings are so peaceful. We had some of the best service ever during our stay. The hotel is so modern with all natural features overlooking Lake Chūzenji. You almost feel like you are in a movie living the superhero life. This is the only Ritz Carlton in the world that has an onsen which my wife really enjoyed. It has indoor and outdoor sections. It was my daughters 3rd birthday and Azumi decorated the bed with lots of balloons and het favorite Anpanman characters. My daughter was so happy. Masa the GM has an incredible team including Taka who welcomed us at Titanium Elite members upon arrival and made sure we received a nice upgrade. There were some delicious snacks in the room including some of the best strawberries ever. Yuki and Yuka were always looking out for us and checking if we needed anything since we were traveling with our 3 year old daughter and 8 month old boy. The kids were treated like royalty. Nozomi from housekeeping was always as quick as her name to deliver anything we needed to the room. When I opened a hallway window by accident and couldn't close it, Sato came to the rescue. Mr. Doi and Khadka at the bar were always fun to talk to while having a one of their amazing cocktail creations. My favorite was the Nature Skin. I can't remember everyone's name but all the staff from the door greeters to the ladies that take you to your room to the restaurant employees are fantastic. I wish all hotels had people like this working for them. Arigatou gozaimasu for the incredible once in a lifetime experience we had.
