First impressions are crucial. We were waited upon by a brisk, snotty barmaid (or landlady?), who was either (a) stupid, (b) rude or (c) had a hearing problem. The pub was very quiet and the order was very simple - â a bottle of still mineral water, no lemon, just iceâ The barmaid actually repeated the order, but I received âsparklingâ (a misnomer as it turned out) water, lemon and no ice. Sheâd poured it before I had a chance to stop her and I decided Iâd drink it anyway - it was vile - flat and metallic tasting and had clearly been around for some time. Two swigs was enough and I left the rest. Yes , we could have complained, but the service and the lack of ambiance ensured that we were going to leave toute suite. This lack of attention was disconcerting in a very quiet pub which isnât very picturesque with little outside space. Definitely wonât be back!We were very upset to hear you were not given the correct water or attention to service on this occasion. The lady that served you was not the Landlady, but one of our part time waitresses/bar staff, she was having a very bad day, and we should've made the decision and removed her from service.However this is no excuse, and we do sincerely apologise.I can assure you this is not a normal occurrence here at The Fox.

We were visiting the bluebell railway for the day and looked for somewhere near to round off the day. The reviews for the Cat were consistently good and we took reveiwerâs advice and booked a table. We were not disappointed! Everything was as reviewerâs described. Service, quality of food, range of beers and wines were all brilliant. The vegetables and the pie were particularly well cooked and delicious. Good quality âgastrio pubâ but with a proper old fashioned local pub ambience and atmosphere.

Fabulous choice chosen by good friends for a mid week dinner catch up. Delightful english country pub next to the cricket green with glorious sunsets from lovely outside seating area. The delicious food was swiftly delivered and was freshly cooked. All our needs were catered for by very frienndly staff . Would recommended highly.Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. See you again soon!

This is a typical chain type pub and restaurant. The food was ok, both myself and my partner had steaks which were alright! (Slightly overlooked yo our liking) but they normally are in the type of establishment. Our table was in a funny place. But the staff were friendly enough. Would I go back probably yes but only if I was pushed to find anywhere else. Not that it was bad, it was just average and not that cheap for average food!Thank you for letting us know about your recent visit to our pub, and I'm really sorry that we've not been able to give you a great experience. This isn't our usual standard and your feedback will be taken on board

It has been a long time since I've experienced such a fantastic Sunday lunch in a pub. We were visiting our daughter, who suggested this venue for lunch and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the meals we received. The offer was, small or large, so we chose large, two large beef and one large lamb roast. We all agreed that the meat was probably the best we had ever tasted, so succulent that it did not need any cutting, it just fell apart.My wife and daughter declined the offer of dessert as they were too full but I gave in at the offer of, White Chocolate and Strawberry Cheesecake with cream. It was fantastic!Well done to all of the team for service and friendliness and 10 out of ten for the chef !! If you are ever in East Grinstead at lunch time on Sunday, give it a try, I am sure you will not be disappointed, we certainly were not.

Visited here today for a baby shower and preordered the afternoon tea for 10. For the price I thought it was great quality and we all left stuffed unable to finish it all. Everything I ate was good quality and tasty- will definitely do the afternoon tea here again and highly recommend it to others.

We had the fish starter, which consists of calamari, whitebait and prawns, which stil hv shells, not mentioned so a bit of a messy faff, plus poo sacks not removed which is a pain to remove when the prawns are hot, fortunately finger bowls were provided, but would we order again probably notThank you for your feedback, Sorry it was a messy starter, please check out our delicious new starters, less messy & still ready tasty!

We have eaten here several times, and trust them to produce tasty food with very drinkable wine. OK it is pub grub rather than pretensious and over-priced so-called fine dining (if that is your thing I could name three establishments within a three mile radius, all of which have given me pains in the backside when I tried them). But horses for courses, Dunnings Old Mill is a winner.Thank you for taking time out to review us.Our food is is produced using fresh ingredients daily.Next time your in make sure you try our daily specials.Wine Wednesday buy two large glasses the rest of the bottle is free.Look out for new wine list in November See you again soon.
