This was the best place in Galway. The oysters, the seafood, the desserts--everything was amazing. So fresh, so flavorful. Take the extra 10 minutes from Quay street and walk here. Get there right when it opens because it is very popular--they do have take-away but it seems that it is mostly locals swinging by after work to pick up a bite. If you do show-up and have to wait--they are spot-on for their time estimates--they told us to come back at 8:25, and we were seated at 8:25.

From the reviews we expected something quite special, so we were a bit disappointed, although ‘average’ may be a bit harsh.Large menu and large portions and the staff were friendly and engaging but aspects of the food were disappointing.Chowder was bland, under-seasoned and far too creamy, but the scallop starter was good. Our sea trouts were well cooked and came with more than enough potato and vegetable accompaniments but we were recommended to order more potatoes and broccoli - which were then hardly touched. Overall that dish should have been simpler to get the full benefit of the sea trout.

Went here with my husband and parents for a celebratory meal and was very impressed. To be honest I expected it to be good but not to rival some of its rivals in the city centre. I was wrong. From arrival to leaving staff were so attentive without being to forward and the food was amazing. The free taxi service and rewards card are also a very nice touch.

Our hotel recommended another place, but it had fewer choices and higher prices. Looked on TA and found this just a short walk away. The restaurant was not particularly busy when we arrived. The hostess seated us near a family of young children who were not being taught how to behave in a restaurant. Although we said nothing, the server could tell that the noise irritated us and asked us if we'd like to move to a quieter section of the restaurant, a most welcome suggestion. The food was excellent. We both ordered lamb, and it was perfectly prepared, appetizingly presented, and delicious. Seasoned just right, not over-spiced like too many restaurants tend to do to their food. Flavorful and tender, it was mouth-wateringly delicious. The server was helpful, friendly, and attentive without hovering. We felt neither ignored nor rushed during our meal. The table, chairs, dishes, glasses, and utensils were clean and in good condition. So glad we didn't take the hotel's suggestion to eat at another place, and discovered John Keogh's Gastropub instead!

We visited blakes bar recently and had the lunch menu. Food was very tasty and plentiful but what made our visit great was our server! Conor was an absolute delight throughout our meal. I actually left the bar in better form then when we went in because of him. I was unsure of whether to get the soup of the day (which turned out to be amazing) but conor had said that if I didn't like it that he would have no issue replacing it for chips with my sandwich. His positive attitude and care was outstanding.

We are so glad we decided to have dinner at this cozy restaurant. We had been walking around Galway checking out our options and decided to eat here on the spur of the moment, and it was a great choice. The staff are friendly and attentive. I had a delicious tagine that the kitchen kindly accommodated my request to add chicken to. My husband had the lamb shank. We also shared a mezze board as a starter (which had excellent hummus and was a generous portion). We'd visit this restaurant again in a heartbeat!

This place is A MUST eat! When I tell people (mostly Americans) about the amazing and exciting food scene in Ireland, WEST is what I am talking about. A recent 10 day stay at The 12 Hotel had us dining at WEST 3 times; each experience was 5 stars! The wine selection is second to none and the staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, but it is the FOOD that completely blows you away. This is the epitome of the NEW IRISH FOOD scene; a stunning combination of traditional Irish flavors and ingredients prepared and executed in the most innovative and delicious ways. Too many people today are still ignorant as to how amazing the food is in Ireland -after Italy, perhaps the best ingredients in the world! Fish caught daily, beef, chicken and lamb from farms minutes away. Most restaurants tell you exactly where your food is coming from and West is no exception. This is FINE dining at a very reasonable price. Romantic ambiance. We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough... if you are in Galway, it is well worth the 12 minute cab ride to beautiful Barna!Dear Franco,Wow! This means so much to us. Thank you as you have raved about everything we hold dear and are passionate about in West. We have been pioneers of the food scene in Galway since opening twelve years ago and we are honoured to be involved in actively elevating Ireland's reputation as a wonderful food destination too.We, and Ireland Thank You.Very best wishes,Fergus and Team.
