Appropriately named , the west coast is spectacular, so much scenery and feels very remote in places. Roads are very well signposted and easy to follow. The roads are also very twisty, single track in places. If you suffer from motion sickness maybe the whole route would be too much. Take time to look at the various harbours as you go along.

Absolutely love the Irish Bog! It's at the same time lonely and beautiful. The park is great. There are 4 different trails (in difficulty) that you can choose from. The visitor center, apart from the awesome staff, has an exposition that teaches about the landscape history. And it's free admission!

Took a long walk around the waterfront and is simply breathtaking. Beautiful view of the city on the walk back. Also great for getting some exercise.

I love this part of Galway as it really shows a wonderful part of Galway for those visiting from overseas. This area hosts many excellent restaurants and pubs and the streets are always a hive of activity.

Built in 20c this Cathedral looks quite stark from the outside due to its granite exterior , also it’s located in essential a traffic island! Inside there are some lovely stained glass windows and it’s interesting to see a medieval design built in a modern way. Worth a look although it will only take 15 mins or so unless you want to attend a service.

Salthill Promenade is a wonderful facility on the doorstep of Galway City and should be a must see for anyone visiting that ancient city. Stretching several kilometers along the sea front this beautiful wide walkway is ideal for a gentle stroll or maybe a jog or a run for the more energetic. For obvious reasons it is sometimes very crowded particularly at the western end but the other end is usually quieter. It is not very hilly so is ideal for older people or those less agile. Parking facilities in the vicinity are plentiful, but one cannot say the same when it comes to toilets as there to be a lack of such amenities. However it is an ideal was to get some exercise and smell the salt air, whether a bracing winter walk or a stroll in summer Sunshine.

My niece took us for a tour of the campus. She just finished her graduate work there. I was very impressed by the diversity of both the students and the areas of study available. We joined in for an after-graduation get together in the quadrangle yard (where it is rumored that Quidditch matches are sometimes played), but being Muggles, we could not see any evidence. The NUI campus is located in a bend of the River Corrib, and very close to all the activities that Galway offers. A great location.
