Excellent place to recover after Ride The Classic sportive

A group of us rode the "Ride The Classic" sportive from Monavea (highly recommended also!) and stayed in Lodge at the Old Barracks afterwards. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, Conaire our breakfast server was particularly good. We enjoyed recovery pizza and drinks in the attached Pizzeria, which was also delicious, and the breakfast was plentiful and quick. Couldn't fault a thing really.

Stayed 3 nights at the lodges/apartments

Stayed in lodge No.7 for 3 nights (16th-19th)... First of all I’d like to highlight that when we arrived absolutely no information was given to us when checking-in in relation to meal times of the restaurant, contact numbers, local attractions/ shops destinations or the usual stuff that gets told to you when you check-in somewhere. It is so important that this should be made available to make guests feel welcomed to any property. When we were escorted to the lodge the first impressions of the lodge was okay we were a bit surprised at the amount of space the lodge offered. Then we started noticing things after an hour or so of settling in such as practically no WiFi (which is stated is available throughout) or a signal that at most held for 10 seconds then drops completely away leaving you with nothing (no cellular signal either by the way). Next thing we noticed was when one of our party went to use the bathroom and was greeted by a god awful non-mistakable sewage smell coming from the downstairs bathroom which quickly expanded throughout the lodge & left us running for sprays. Of course this was relayed to the reception immediately via Facebook messenger as there were no telephones, the message was read but we received no reply so we decided to physically go to reception and relay this & We were promised a WiFi booster and did receive this the following day after having to chase it up as I had previously expressed WiFi was essential due to work commitments. We also re-highlighted the sewage smell of the downstairs bathroom to the polite young man who brought us the WiFi booster whom said he’d pass it on about the sewage smell. Next thing we started noticing was the cleanliness of the place it was just average and could of been cleaner in our eyes considering the price of the place ie grease stains wiped off cooker hood light & the surrounding cupboards, marks of dirt around doors & handles, dust & cobwebs behind tv and cobwebs from the side of kitchen cupboards. The sofas that were in the property were a bit worst for wear as well the leather sofas springs were near popping out and sank in the middle as for the cloth sofa which should of never been in a pet friendly accommodation smelt real bad, we had to spray it a few times to try and disguise the bad smells coming from it (which we had to go out and purchase). We also had to literally fight with the refrigerator door to keep it closed as it kept opening by itself. As for the upstairs area we never found a problem except for 2 minor things the dirt marks around door handles of the doors and there could of been more of an effort made to remove limescale marks around the seams of the shower doors. The beds were comfy, firm & also clean. Also a tip for the cleaners of the lodges it would be nice to leave a few extra bin liners so the bins can be emptied more regularly as stated on the notice on the wall. I was actually quite surprised to find these faults after reading such good reviews which is what attracted me to this place but I believe it’s better for the proprietors to have knowledge of these things to improve their service. The only resolution we received was the WiFi booster heard nothing back about the sewage smell.

Extremely disappointed in this over priced acommodation. It was located a good distance from Kilronan with a €25 return fare for 2 to get back to Kilronan. There was no warm breakfast, which was shocking considering the price. The lodge itself was full and it felt like we were staying in the neighbours house next door. Asked the owners for a lift, and they said no, whereas we met some other locals during our stay who generously offered us lifts. The water to shower was ice cold. Appalling service and shockingly overpriced.

The whole experience was perfect, highly recommended. The view from the lodge was stunning, we spent one evening watching the sun setting for about two hours cosy on the balcony. There was plenty of car parking and the road was very quiet, especially at night. There are lots of leaflets for local extractions and services, we used a recommended taxi service. The breakfast was devious, the service was very welcoming and friendly, thank you to the lady (can’t remember her name) she was wonderful. Thank you again for the lovely accommodation, I just wish we could have stayed longer.

Homely B&B

Mary and Jarleth were very friendly hosts & full of great advice for local restaurants & attractions. They made us feel very welcome. Mary cooked us a superb breakfast. Our room was large, quiet & beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was huge with a great shower with plenty of hot water! We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast chat before leaving. Thank you for a wonderful stay & would definitely recommend travelers to stay. Not a major issue if you want peace & quiet & easy access to Connemara but slightly out of walking distance to town. You can catch a bus or taxi for a small reasonable fair.

Just stayed 3 nights with my family & 2 dogs. Such a lovely relaxing time! Dogs had such freedom & we all loved it! Houses are lovely & everything we needed. Golf course is amazing . WiFi hit & miss however no one noticed as the weather was amazing & we spent our time on the lake. Highly recommend renting a river boat to get around all the little islands, such fun swimming & kids dogs had a ball. Fabulous aqua park nearby,& we will certainly be back!
