Upendo offers a wonderful view of The Rock restaurant and some pretty good (above average) dishes. The nice pool is a bonus. As we are fans of curry we both ordered curry based dishes... chicken and seafood. Both were really good. One special thing was the desert - chocolate mousse. It was exceptional, but it had one major problem. It was way to little. Not only it was very good, but you could finish it in 4-5 scoops. Service was ok, while a little bit slow it is something normal in Zanzibar. Enjoy the food and chill!

We stumbled upon this gem by chance, had the most wonderful dinner. Really friendly staff and lovely owner Janet! Not the quickest as have to wait while itâs freshly cooked, but is well worth the wait!!Delicious food and good value.Went again the next evening and the following day for lunch.Great place to relax on the sun beds and good WiFi. We love it and will go again several times this coming week.It will certainly be one reason to return to this area!

We arrived in the area on my wife's birthday and wanted somewhere special to eat that night, we found this restaurant whilst walking along the beach and thought it looked great for lunch. The manager told us it was not open during the day but that they were open in the evening so we booked and returned later well the wait was worth it as they had laid a special romantic table for us and had prepared a gourmet platter of local seafood, lobster, rock lobster, prawns, line caught fish and crab too, the waiter was very attentive and professional which made for an excellent evening and celebration, we will be back not just for the food but also because the accommodation looked excellent, thank you

Was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the pizza here - as good as I've had in Italian restaurants in cities in Europe.Lovely setting, overlooking the sea from a slightly elevated dining room which is airy and bright.Fairly (comparatively) pricey compared to some other places along the beach but a great place to visit when you want a break from seafood and local dishes.Friendly, efficient service, too.Many thanks for your nice review on our restaurant service and food quality. Discovered this place accidentally on a review site. It is walking distance from anywhere on Nungwi Beach really - just ask a local and they will either point you in the right direction or walk you! Just past Istanbul Restaurant on the beach to the left, as Google Maps doesn't give an accurate location. Great energy! Great staff -- super friendly! Great fries! Great fresh drinks! The smoothies are tasty. The ceviche was delicious - tuna and mango!

We went to this restaurant 3 times and each time we had really nice food and service. The fish is fresh, tasty and well cooked and all the ingredients are locals, showing that is an ethic business. We really appreciate that they donât use too many plastic bottles encouraging the clients to get the jar of water to reduce plastic pollution. Everything is home made, even the pasta, which is amazing. We stayed at the hotel next to it so for us was perfect but the nice thing is that we could see many many people from other hotels in the area coming to have dinner at the Bistrò! The owners Salvatore and Roberta take care of every little thing and they make sure that every details is perfect. The location is elegant and modern with a touch of Zanzibar style. The service is friendly and fast (something difficult to find in Zanzibar)! Prices are really good especially for quality of the food and location. We had such a great time and great food! Your words are so sweet like you, dear francy.....We try to do our best every day to give a good service to the guests and we are so happy to host guests from all the hotels of Kendwa and also from other cities. Let me start off saying I love food. Anywhere I go I search and want to ensure I have the best meals. I came across Taarab and decided I wanted to bring my family of 8 here. Being from the USA, you have to temper expectations when you visit countries like Zanzibar. Essentially it was a bad experience from the start. We waited 20 minutes to get our water - we were the only customers in at 3pm on a Wednesday. Then our bread came out cold, and we had to send it back. After about an hour, our food came out from the kitchen, we ordered everything, from appetizers to their famous seafood platter ($70USD). EVERYTHING was terrible. I called out the chef, and I made him hold our appetizer, it was a fried lobster roll, I explained to him how is something cold when itâs fried? I then made him hold a fry, same thing. The chef was pretty baffled. He offered to bring us food, but letâs be honest here, we all know he wouldâve gone and thrown it in the microwave. I had a really really bad experience here, I walked up and left the restaurant angrily after giving them a piece of my mind. I didnât pay for anything because nothing was eaten. I spoke to the Hilton staff downstairs before I left, but I hope you have a better experience than I did. I really wish I wouldâve just gone to Emerson, but hey you win some and lose some!Dear Anil L,So sorry to read about your disappointment.
