I was in Cuba for 4 weeks mid October to mid November and I visited restaurante El Sol 3 times with my Cuban companera. This restaurant is about 100 yrs further along Maceo from Restaurante Sabore Arte, which I have already reviewed and is on the same side. When you enter El Sol there is an open flight of stairs to the restaurant on the left, and each time there was 2 or 3 guys hanging around the bottom. My companera almost always wears short skirts so I followed her up as closely as possible to obscure their view. Is that why they hang around there?? The restaurant itself is very good, not large with tables down each side and some down the centre. It was spotless and the service was fairly quick. There was only 2 waitresses so we did not expect miracles.I had escolope of pork and my companera, with a penchant for seafood chose prawns again. Seafood is expensive for Cubans so she always took advantage of the fact that I was paying. I ate out 26 times during my holiday and that escolope of pork was probably the best pork dish I had during the entire stay.Thank you very much for your opinion. Our hotel is very pleased that you have enjoyed your stay in our facility and we invite you and your companera to visit us again. Have a good day!!

During my summer vacation I went and visited my friends with their beautiful daughter. They brought me to one of there favourite restaurants. I was surprised, the variety of foods. It is a cozy little restaurant. The prices are very good and the staff very friendly. I ate pizza, my friends ate chicken. The portion are very good. When you done eating, you are full. I will go back for sure.

Don't go there - despite the roof terrace. We waited 75 minutes at our table to get our 4 overcooked main courses. The food was extremely overpriced compared to food quality well below average for Cuba. Just before leaving without any food we got our overcooked and deep fried chicken which was extremely dry. The rice included a small stone that cost our son a corner of a tooth. As a compensation for the extreme waiting time we were offered to WAIT for a free desert. LIfe is to short for this restaurant. Don't let the touts/jiniteros and the roof terrace tempt you. Go to Casa del Gobernador on Boulevard/Indepencia with double food quality at one third of the Price or to Restaurante Colonial 1878 by the park Vidal!

Good food in a lovely atmosphere! The shredded beef and the pineapple chicken were particularly good and had some seasoning. The owners spoke with us and showed us rooms that were vacant. The environment of the restaurant is very nice and the service is very attentive. I had lobster which was slightly overcooked and chewy, and my husband had a fish plate. It was overall nothing special.
