Purmerend ( pronunciation (help·info)) is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The city is surrounded by polders, such as the Purmer, Beemster and the Wormer. The city became the trade center of the region but the population grew relatively slowly. Only after 1960 did the population start to grow from around 10,000 to around 80,000 by the 2010s. From the 1960s onwards, Purmerend has seen major expansion and continues to do so. This expansion has turned Purmerend into a commuter town; many inhabitants of Purmerend (14,200 in 2011), work, go to school or spend their leisure time in Amsterdam. Purmerend is part of the Randstad, one of the largest conurbations in Europe.

Overall just a wonderful night out. Posthoorn pays a great attention to the details of their dishes. Their ability to find that "just right" temperature in all of the meats/food they prepared is simply wonderful. What I believe to be the signature dish "Iberico Pork" is a fantastic grouping of textures and flavors. I addition we also found the Kabeljauw (cod) to be a pleasant addition to last nights menu. The fish simply melted away into your mouth. All in all, If you are passing through these beautiful towns in north holland and love a memorable meal, then certainly add Posthoorn to your map- Well done and thanks for the great bites.Thank you. A trip to Pumerend would not be complete without a visit to this cafe. Brenda (the owner) is the 'hostess with the hostess' and you can be assured of a warm and friendly greeting to match the atmosphere. Brenda is forefront in the cafe which is cozy but interesting with an eclectic decor but what would all that be without good food? I have been here several times and never been disappointed. Brenda's home made apple pie is so good likewise her hearty stews and the 'flammkuchen'. Prices are reasonable and the cafe has regular 'live' music acts - check Brenda's Facebook site for details.

Brasserie 1434 is een mooi restaurant op de Koemarkt in Purmerend. Wij waren hier met zân twaalven dus grote groep. We hadden een 6 gangen diner van Wl deals. Alle gerechten waren lekker alhoewel de pasta over cooked was. Vooraf hadden wij een pommedorie soep met een bruschetta , erg lekker. Daarna carpaccio op een papadump , ook lekker. Daarna kon je kiezen tussen zalm of een stukje vlees, beide waren erg smakelijk. Ikzelf had vlees in een heerlijke jus. De pasta was met een beetje peper en zout okay maar over cooked. Dat was het enige minpuntje. Bediening was aardig maar twee meiden voor de hele zaak is te weinig, lange tussen poses tussen de gerechten wat uiteindelijk een lange zit werd.Conclusie is leuk restaurant en eten lekker. Prijzen zijn normaal.

Now we would never of found this place had we not been taken by friends that frequent this restaurant on a regular basis, and I understand why, it is excellent.The service is friendly and efficient, and our server offered great suggestions from the menu. We dined with 6 friends and we all enjoyed our dishes which ranged from Sea Bass to one of the best Fillet Steaks I have ever enjoyed.The restaurant is also very comfortably decorated, and has a great atmosphere, I could only hope that we had such a place in our home town.
