On enquiring about eating at the restaurant later that evening we were made so welcome by the owner that we immediately reserved a table outside. On our return later the owner again made us welcome and showed us to the table in the road ! The menu choice was quite extensive for the size of the place and appeared well frequented by local people. The service was good and the food outstanding and certainly value for money. Would thoroughly recommend.

We didn't speak much German but the staff were extremely attentive and understanding - even taking the time to help us during peak tourist season in summer. The choice of local dishes were super and tasty. We soon learned the local speciality, Pfefferlingen wild mushrooms. Boy, they cooked up a storm with them, served with spâtzle noodles. The wine list was also good value. Although I'm a white wine fan, I'd suggest you try their excellent reds.

Visited Lowen which is situated in the Basler StraÃe on our last night as we wanted something light to eat. As it was threatening rain we ate inside and it is a very modern style restaurant inside.We both had Tagliatelle with Salmon, along with a couple of glasses of local red wine. Finishing with a tea and coffee, a very reasonable 29 euros.We would definitely return.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal earlier this week at the Kreuz Post. The service was a little slow but I believe they had a large party to attend to in another part of the hotel. The quality of the food definitely made up for the slow service. We waited quite some time for a warm chocolate tart for dessert - absolutely worth waiting for. My husband's sister is a pastry chef and I can say without a doubt, the pastry we had at the Kreuz Post was second-to-none. Would definitely recommend eating here if you are in Staufen.

My wife and I visted this restaurant along with another couple earlier this year. This first time we went we all had something different. One of my friends had the hot stones served with raw steak which you cooked yourself. Although all our meals was of exceptional quality, we all quite fancied the hot stones and steak so we returned again a few days later. We were not disappointed at all. It was BRILLIANT. We could not speak German but the all the girls in the restaurant all spoke good English and went out of their way to speak to us and made us feel very welcome. When we return in 2016 this will be our first restaurant to go back to..

I stayed at this hotel and when I did a search, I was surprised to find the restaurant in the hotel was the highest rated in town. I had dinner there and it was awesome. It was there price fix menu and had a wonderful shrimp appetizer and monk fish entrée. It was incredible. Well worth the stop if you are in the area.

My wife and, accompanied by two dogs, ate in the Douce restaurant of the Hirshen hotel. The restaurant is bi-cultural (French/German) and offers an outstandingly light cuisine based on super fresh, quality products. Service is warmly welcoming and very friendly and the wine list features a broad selection of local and other (mostly French) wines. One minor criticism: we felt that the individual dishes of our 5 course menu could have had more differentiated tastes. Alternatively, it could have been that, used to more highly spiced food, we missed the some of the subtlety of the tastes on offer. In any event, we give the owner, the chefs and the excellent service presonnel the benefit of the doubt! Viator Coloniae.

We ate twice within a week at the Linde, which claims "gut-bürgerliche regionale Küche" - high standard homecooking based on regional ingredients and tastes. The ambience is the very comfortable in the building with a 350year history. The service is friendly, attentive and competent, the prices reasonable. A good selection of regional wines and spirits is on offer. In our food selection we favoured the local trout and the mushrooms, which are in season. Both evenings, the main ingredients of the food served (trout and mushrooms prepared in different styles, as well as the sauces) were fresh, tasty and prepared to high standard. Equally, the side-dishes were barely edible. E.g. the fried potatos were limp and soggy, the peas overcooked, wrinkled and tasteless. It appeared as if the components of the meals were prepared in different kitchens or at least by different chefs. We remarked on this in a very friendly way to the head waiter the first evening, only to experience the very same again upon our second attempt. A pity ......

Enjoyed a sunny, cool weekday autumn afternoon lunch here when service was relaxed and the sun brilliantly lit up the fresh flowers o the table.They have instilled a genuine cultural/historical feeling to the place in decor and in menu.Its little valley and neighboring monastery round out a charming setting.
