This place is positioned for the perfect view of the sun setting as you observe the beautiful birds! I loved the wait staff, the friendliest was incredible! I ordered one of the steak plates and enjoyed every bite of it and just went I thought it was all over with my waiter came to the table with a nice delicious sweet treat! No extra charge! My photos are not the best because it was quite late in the evening when I ate there!

La Fortaleza

This is a thoroughly Nica restaurant on the waterfront in front of the lake in San Carlos. It's busy with locals for good reason. The whole fried fish was scrumptious, crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside, dressed in a tasty fresh tomato sauce. Nicaraguan food at its best. Seating is outdoors, and the other patrons were really chatty and friendly. It's a bare-bones kind of place, nothing fancy, just great food. We ate there on there on the recommendation of Yaro, the owner of Sabalos Lodge, when we had a couple hours to kill in San Carlos. San Carlos is a pretty charming little place with a nice central park. It's worth spending an afternoon there.

I stayed here and at all my meals in the restaurant. Basic fare including plantains, tajadas which were really good, rice, means, etc. If you go fishing, they will cook your catch.
