The restaurant, the food, the service and the breathtaking view all combined to make this a fabulous evening for us. To have discovered this gem, and to enjoy the exceptional hospitality we received from the owner, Elaine, was definitely a highlight of our experience in Westmoreland, Jamaica. We highly recommend Elaine's Château.

We were a large group of maybe 10. Everyone enjoyed their food. I think between all of us we had just about everything on the menu that night. Drinks were awesome. The staff was great. I got the Specialty drink for the night. I hated it. They were happy to bring me something else. Swordfish was particularly delicious.

This was our fourth time visiting Sandals South Coast, and the first time we didn't re-book on site. We love this resort, but several things made us reconsider booking. I will try and categorize this review. I'll mix in reasons why we did not rebook. 1. Restaurants : The food was fantastic. If there was a restaurant that I would skip, it would be Eleanor's. The steak there isn't that great. Seafood was great at all of the restaurants. Massey took great care of us at Bayside for the French dinner. If there was a restaurant to visit twice, it would be Sushi on the sand. Chef Napoleon was amazing, we ate there twice. Sit inside at the sushi counter and he will make you different items. Amazing. Reservations never needed at any of the restaurants. Outside dining is available at all of the restaurants. 2. Didn't rebook reason 1: Sandals was having a photo shoot for their website the week we were there. This resulted in different parts of the beaches and pools being closed for a day. Having 2/3 of the beach closed for 3 days is unacceptable. When they did the photo shoot, they took away the current cheap plastic beach chairs and replaced them with fancy new ones for the photo shoot only. Super sneaky. The photos will reveal a whole set of new chairs on the beach. False advertising. The old plastic chairs were then put back into place when they were done taking pics of that section of beach. Management should have known better. Why do this when your resort is at capacity? It would have been smarter to do this during the off season. Many people were upset.3. Resort : the grounds are impeccable. Absolutely amazing. The flowers are amazing. The pools and beaches are simply fabulous. Everything is beautiful. There is a long beautiful sidewalk connecting the entire resort along the beach. We walked this several times a day. The resort is spread out with plenty of places to go.4. Reason #2 why we didn't rebook: the road to the resort was closed when we arrived. No one told us that the bus would go through Negril resulting in over a 3 hour bus ride on the way there. The road was re-opened for our return drive to the airport. It took us 2 hours and was awful. We have driven this road before, and it was rough. This time it was unbearable. Literally driving over rocks and unfinished gravel. It's supposed to be done in 14 months. This is in my opinion is not a drivable road. Maybe pick something else until this road is done?5. Reason #3 why we didn't rebook: several times upper Sandals management skipped guests in line at the pool bar and in the Cafe Paris. Crazy arrogance.6. General staff: the overall staff helping the guests are very friendly and helpful. They did a great job. 7. Pools: main pool and French pool are a bit louder and play music, have games, etc. The Dutch pool is very quiet and no music, etc is there. Pools are clean and very nice. Drink service by the pools was fantastic. 8. The pool and beach chair rush. Yes this exists here too. It was even worse this year with the beach closings. By 6:30-645am many of the chairs were taken at both the pool and beach. Hustling for chairs at 6:45am isn't super fun. Often, butler suites had beach chairs reserved on the beach, and no one showed at those chairs all day.9. Rooms. We are Sandals rewards members, yet still choose the least expensive rooms because we are never in them. The resort is amazing. We have stayed in the French area all 4 times. This time we felt our room (3226) just didn't make the cut. The handle fell off of the bathroom door. The sink was cracked. The ceiling fan was dangling crookedly from the ceiling. The toilet ran and ran. We called maintenance and they fixed the toilet. The room was also on the end so the balcony had no privacy and was next to the maids quarters with lots of noise. As reward members we didn't feel rewarded at all. 10. We are looking to have great service upfront, not after we complain about it. Russell at the rewards desk heard our concerns, shrugged his shoulders and pretty much dismissed us. We ran into Amanda later in the week and she connected us with management. Heidi was helpful and promised to put some points in our rewards account if we rebook. Again, when we are paying this much for vacation, we expect certain things that we didn't receive on this trip: a good room, an open beach, and available beach chairs.11. The "vibe" of this resort is quiet and calm. This is how we love to vacation. It's not a party scene. For the most part, guests are on the older side. I would say 45-70 is the age range. It's not a party resort, yet there are great bars and entertainment for those that want it.
