Cross Cafe is a great place to grab a drink and enjoy some hearty Japanese pub food with friends. It's on the second floor above a karaoke bar, just up a spiral staircase accessible from the street. You can't miss the DIY signs, fairy lights, and owner's motorcycle sitting out front. The interior decorated with a fun mix of 80s movie posters, anime figurines, and retro coffee ads. The owners are a friendly couple who don't speak much English, but they seem to love having foreigners come in. The usual crowd here is almost exclusively locals unwinding after work.The bar has about 5-6 seats, and there are maybe 3 tables. The place sometimes seems to fill up on Friday and Saturday nights. They offer all-you-can-drink specials and will gladly take a reservation for groups and office parties.To simplify things, all drinks are the same price. There are 2-3 beers to choose from, and a decent selection of cocktails. The real surprise is their good selection of whiskey and scotch.The food is home-style dishes like chicken chahan and omurice. I especially recommend the chicken nanban or steak katsu, as they are especially good here. The deserts are excellent here, as the owner's hobby seems to be baking. She makes all the cakes from scratch. She told me she also leads a baking and cookie decorating class on site through the week.I love the type of casual dive bar where you can sit, have a beer and hearty meal, then a glass of whiskey while chatting with the owners or some locals. If that's the kind experience you like, definitely stop by Cross Cafe next time you're nearby.
