Reviewed By 367sandcastleI took my elementary school-aged son to Lake Biwa for the first time to celebrate the summer holidays and swim in the lake. Due to the distance from our home, I thought it would be better to stay overnight instead of rushing back. Using an employee rate, I actually received a kind upgrade to a room with an onsen because my son would not be able to use the public hot spring on his own, which would have upset him a lot as he loves all things related to water. Thanks to this kind upgrade by Abeyama Manager, my son took a bath at his leisure 4 times in less than 18 hours. I don't usually eat at hotels due to the cost, so we walked to the neighbouring mall. It actually has two large food courts at either end of the mall and a supermarket. If you aren't fussed about dining in a restaurant it's good enough. I'm sure guests without kids might not find this too appealing. Although I had to pay to use the pool, they only charged us for one entrant because only my son was intending to swim and I was just going to supervise. While waiting for the shuttle bus back to the station, Mr. Abeyama kindly provided us with drinks for the road a massive handfuls of Haribo gummi bears. :) Since this was just meant to be a place to hang our heads for a short time, the wonderful view of the lake and our private bath really made this great for us. Also, we didn't want to get out of bed it was so cozy. Thank you for the hospitality. <3

Reviewed By 578SusanJThe hotel is across the street from the bottom of the station escalator which makes travelling on the railways easy. It took us 30 minutes to get to the centre of Kyoto on the train. Its a nice hotel situated on the 4th floor of a large building and is served by 2 lifts. Rooms have comfortable beds and and are well appointed with a decent size TV, fridge and tea making facilities and have great air conditioning units. They are spotlessly clean with good quality bed linens. Breakfast is in the ground floor bakery and there is a restaurant on the first floor of the building.

Reviewed By TheOutdoorholicMy Wife & I came to the Omihachiman area for some R & R and sightseeing. We booked a night at the Biwako Plaza Hotel. The hotel has seen better days, that is not a criticism, but we felt we got value-for-money. The receptionist was very friendly & helpful. Our room was very spacious and clean with a great view overlooking Lake Biwa and the Biwa-ohashi Bridge. The hotel is smoking/non-smoking hotel, again not a criticism but, you can request a non-smoking room. We were given vouchers for a nearby Spa facility. The breakfast was also value-for-money and plentiful. The hotel is ideally situated with many restaurants nearby and a large shopping mall about 5-minutes walk.

Reviewed By Ross-Barry BThe 'Setre Marina Biwako' oozes luxury. From the moment you arrive at the entrance & check-in, to the moment you depart, you will be spoilt rotten. Everything about this facility is total perfection - the staff, although very formal, are also casual & friendly, the room is very well appointed with great views across the lake with the Hira Mountains in the distance, the facilities are top rate and the food is what you would experience at any top class restaurant anywhere in the world. Tip-1 - when you check-in you are given a card telling you the sunset time and I suggest, if the weather is fine-&-clear, you absorb the great view as the sun sets behind the mountain rage. Tip-2 - pour yourself a glass of red wine, get a plate with some nibbles and head to the roof and check-out the view. Tip-3 - don't be in a hurry at dinner, savor the food, wash it down with a nice wine (it took my wife and I 2.5-hours to make our way through the menu). Tip-4 - have your breakfast in your room. Tip-5 - bring some cycling gear and take advantage of the free cycles and head-off over the Biwako-ohashi (bridge) and check-out the view from the top. Everything is included in the cost of your stay so, whatever your purpose for staying at the 'Setre Marina Biwako, you will come-away totally refreshed.
