We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel. The meals were expected to be 'special' and we were not disappointed. Dinner was more or less kaiseki style but there was clearly a substantial range of food offerings from which to choose. Breakfast also had an extended range of food offered. Freshness was evident and presentation first rate.

Very relaxed atmosphere on the main road. The oysters are not served in their shells but I was told they are local, they came out raw in a dish with lemon, very fresh and ¥780 for 4. Next ordered the fried oysters. Large and served with a cabbage salad on the side, that was ¥1000. Honestly, I thought it would be more enjoyable with some tartar sauce on the side. Manager was not exactly friendly when answering my questions, the other staff member was. As far as I know, no English speakers here. All the menus were in Japanese. Please see pictures. You can get some good deals with the big sets for 2000 or ¥2500. Probably would not eat here again because of the managers attitude.

Ajidokoro Santori Chaya

I had a very good diner at Santori Chaya. Excellent tempura, very good miso soup and side salad, very good value for money. I was sitting at the counter and I managed to talk a little with the chef, using my basic Japanese. He very kindly offered me two pieces of maguro sashimi when he understood I wouldn't eat the oyster tempura.

Matsushima Sushi Ko

We had a wonderful dinner at this excellent fish restaurant. We started with a variety of sashimi, including shrimp and crab. We also tried raw and cooked eel with rice. Then we were served three kinds of grilled fish, including yellowtail, all extremely fresh and perfectly cooked. We had very good miso soup with shrimp for flavoring and cucumber and gourd sushi. For beverages we drank oolong and green tea and very good sake. Everything was very fresh and well prepared and it's a great place to sample new and different kinds of seafood.

Kakigoya

I visited on Saturday 3 Oct 2015. Read reviews on this place and saw it featured on the tourism website and brochures. Did my homework and followed google maps to walk to this place from the station. Blue dot on google maps said I have reached but there was no bustling oyster restaurant with long queues to be seen.Found this sad place with a sign that said that they are closed. Looking inside the place, it looked like it had not operated as a restaurant for some time and was messy.Another couple came by just as I was taking the photo and was also surprised that the place was closed.I don't know if it's only closed for the day or I went during a season where it's not open but I was sorely disappointed.

Rikyu, Matsushima

I went to Rikyu because I wanted some meat and not some Oysters. I found it on Trip advisor but all the comments were in Japanese but it has a good grade and good pictures so I went. It's when I discovered the English menu that I saw "Beef TONGUE", I am clearly not a fan, far away from that but it was awesome, the meat was really good, the "soup" was too. I was really afraid at first but at the end it was an awesome choice! I recommend even for those who normally doesn't like beef tongue.
