Maule Region Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Maule Region

December 20, 2017 Marissa Gamble

The Maule Region (Spanish: VII Región del Maule, pronounced [ˈmau̯.le]) is one of Chile's 15 first order administrative divisions. Its capital is Talca. The region derives its name from the Maule River which, running westward from the Andes, bisects the region and spans a basin of about 20,600 km. The Maule river is of considerable historic interest because, among other reasons, it marked the southern limits of the Inca Empire.

I travelled all the way from Santiago, 2.5 hour drive, to visit this vineyard maker of my favorite red wine, and it was worth it. It's a small place because it has offices in other Valleys and places in Chile in order to get the best wine. The cellar and Gardens are quite interesting to see. It's best if you book in advance if you want to eat at its restaurant since it is tiny, and rather expensiv. Nice wine tasting. Tour is not expensive at all

Our hosts recommended Soler for a casual yet delicious cafe serving outstanding sandwiches. So glad he did (thank you, Francisco!).
The Italian (red, white, green) Sandwich had the most tender and tasty pork, served with extra palta (I'm so glad I love avocados) and tomatoes (but not on mine). HUGE Sandwich, big enough to split.
Cafe felt almost like a diner. Very clean. Very friendly and efficient service, even for us extranjeros.
Conveniently located next to Route 5.

I went on a day or was almost empty, but I think it is a quite busy restaurant. Beef was good and service very attentive. Pisco sour was really good, and price is not so expensive as someone said. 20000 for a sour, biffe (350gr) with potatoes, a small bottle of wine and an espresso. I recommend it

Rompe Olas Bar Pub Restaurant

Waves breaking Resto Lounge Bar, a restaurant that offers services for all types of private and corporate events. We are in the Constitution and pay attention to the whole region. We have extensive experience . We started as a pub in 1996 , its success led us to transform us into a restaurant since 2010 .

Awesome Restaurant! First I must explain that Constitucion is a small coast city with the most extraordinary mountain rocks on the black sand Beaches. You can enjoy a wonderful view from all the Beaches on the way to the Fisherman Pier. As a city, it is not specially beautiful as it was on the past, but you will find wonderful landscapes all over. The Rompeolas Restaurant is one of the best in the region (7 Region). It is fancy and has a great atmosphere at any time. If you go for an apero, lunch, dinner or a late drink. The cava has an amazing rock wall and you can taste an excellent Chilean wine. Food is 100% gourmet (quite a surprise for a small town) they cook traditional Chilean recipes but with a fine touch (please do not forget the desserts) They can be proud not only for its food but also for its service, friendly and respectful in Spanish and English (!) The owners are always there, taking care of every detail. No doubt about it, simply the best!
(It is located next to the 1st Beach, so enjoy a walk there too)

Good service and enjoyable garden setting in good weather. The food is good if you like the south american take on sushi - different but still tasty. Perhaps more cream cheese than is authentic but the portions are quite generous. The octopus in olive sauce is very good -imho.

The term "picada" means for Chileans a very traditional chilean food place, cheap and unique for its preparations, its location and its way to protrait local life. This is it the real deal for a "picada" and any traveler that apreciates more than food, the most intimate way of living of a country, will understand that El Tumbaito is the place. If you visit, ask for the Plateada with smash potatoes or Chilean pure. You´ll enjoy it!!!!!

Reviewed By MonsieurLeNez - Talca, Chile

This place has become really popular with locals since it opened a few months back. On fact, it's become so popular that you will probably need a reservation on Friday nights.
Most new restaurants inTalca don't bother too much with decor, but this one is well designed, with matching colors for walls, napkins and even artwork. The food is well-prepared (you can tell that there is a trained chef in the kitchen) but it is by no means "special". The portions are huge.
Problems: It's noisy, very noisy. First, because the ceiling has a weird tent-like shape that throws noise all around the restaurant. And secondly, because the big portions tend to attract big groups of local business people and government agents, who seem to enjoy speaking as loudly as possible.
