Yakigaki No Hayashi

The only place to enjoy oysters casually all the year. The most historic and popular restaurant. The staff is also friendly. We offer the most reliable Japanese cuisine in Miyajima.

A very busy restaurant in the small shopping street of Miyajima. You can’t miss it big sign and a crowded place with a significant number of Japanese. Anyhow it’s clear that the review in the guidebooks bring the crowds. But it is well deserved if, again, you love oysters because they present them in many forms raw cook grilled etc. All excellent I must say. Friendly service used to non Japanese English menu available and very reasonable prices. I agree this the place that you should visit in Miyajima besides the temples and pagodas of course !

We found interesting the ratings on Tripadvisor, even though there were only a few, so we decided to give it a try. We went for the 5.000 Yen chef’s option, which included some oyster soup, sashimi, and nigiris, among other dishes. We enjoyed the tasting menu so much, not only because of the quality but also because of the experience of having the sushimen in front of us, who were preparing and explaining the nigiris while we ate. After two weeks in Japan, I can say that this was the best meal, and why not to mention, I donmt think a similar experience can be found for this money! Last but not least, the staff is very nice as well!

I’d recommend sitting by the bar here so that you can watch them make the okonomiyaki. It’s like a chain process starting from cooking the cabbage and pancake with pork on a hot plate, flipping it over, adding scallops/shrimps/oysters and then adding the egg and other condiments. The menu is simple, the experience is worth it

I came to this restaurant with my two friends after a full day of hiking. We wanted to wait for the sunset above the Itsukushima shrine, but were super hungry, so we started to search for a reasonably priced restaurant, which wasn't easy, because most of the restaurants on Miyajima island close around 4 p.m. This one was one of the few still open and it turned out to be a great pick. The atmosphere was awesome with a few locals in there and you get the choice to sit Japanese or Western style. The staff was very friendly. The menu was in English and had a great variety. One of my friends doesn't like seafood, so he had a pork cutlet (served with rice and salad), my other friend had udon noodle soup with oysters and I had just a plain okonomiyaki. I have had Japanese style pankaes during my travels around Japan a few times and maybe it was because I was so hungry after the hike, but this was the best okonomiyaki I have had so far! Well balanced with the sauce, sill bubbly hot and topped with fish flakes! We all washed it down with a beer and agreed this was a great end to our day! And the price was very reasonable for such a touristy place.
