Boutique, ocean-facing hostel on the south coast of Sri Lanka in the beach town of Hikkaduwa. Brilliant location, a 3 minute tuk tuk ride to the Hikkaduwa town and beach. Brilliant space, large spacious rooms/dorms. Every room/dorm has an ensuite, hot water taps and showers, ocean facing balcony, fans & aircon. Brilliant ocean-facing rooftop terrace and covered deck, 2 chill out areas, and a pool.

Reviewed By Anu HWe did not like Hikkaduwa but we like very much this hotel. Breakfast was average. Room and view was just lovely. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We like bed and shower with good pressure inc. hot water. Swimmingpool and roof terrace was top of the cake.

Sena went above and beyond just a host, but completely welcomed us in his hom...even hanging out with his friends! Breakfast consisted of eggs on toast, fresh juice and was wonderful! We had the best time here. You must not miss it!

Fantastic low budget homestay situated by the best part of the beach!

Set within a large, beautiful garden space, this large guesthouse is perfect for single travellers, couples and families alike. There are 4 large rooms to choose from in the main house. Plus there are also more rooms available in the owners brothers house at the bottom of the land. Those on a higher budget could also opt for one of the two cabanas that have recently been built and offer complete privacy, aircon, etc (at a higher price obviously). We stayed in the main guesthouse and we loved the homely feel of the place. The familly are really friendly, kind and helpful. They made us feel so welcome and really looked after us. The land is fully enclosed and entry is via a gate that is always locked shut. So if you have young children you can feel completely safe here and let them run free while you relax in one of the various hammocks. The guesthouse has a really sociable feel to it. We met several lovely people during our stay. It seems to attract lovely travellers with good vibes! There is a beautiful tree out the front which the owner planted himself 35 years ago. Now it is a huge, fully matured tree that looks amazing and is also the perfect place to sit and chill. We spent several evenings out there around the table with different guests from around the world... Lovely memories! The owners will let you use their own personal kitchen. They also have water and other drinks in their fridge should you need anything. Plus they are always on hand to run you somewhere in their tuktuk if needed. Do bear in mind that all of the rooms are very different. So choose the one that best suits your needs. We now have our favourite, which was perfect for us and our 2 year old son. Breakfast is available if you order it at some point during the day before. We always opted for the Sri Lankan breakfast which can be served straight outside your room at whatever time you choose for 500 per person. The location of Shammie Guesthouse couldn't be more perfect. This is the side of Hikkaduwa that you want to be on!!!! Please don't make the mistake of staying on the wrong side!!! There is a BIG difference. This side has the best part if the beach. Its lovely and quiet. But if you want a bit of nightlife, restaurants or bars they are just a few minutes walk away. Check our other reviews out for great places to visit in the area.... We will definitely return to Shammie Guesthouse for another stay before we leave Sri Lanka. At this price, it is without any doubt the best place to stay and enjoy the fantastic beach!

Staff were super friendly and welcoming considering we stayed a couple of nights then went down the coast and then came back to stay again. Rooms are what you pay for them - aircon rooms are pricer however are clean and comfy (although do slightly smell of dampness) depending on what room you get the bathrooms can be a hit or miss in terms of size and cleanliness. However if your on a budget then hansa is the one! Spend almost all my time outside on the beach and in the water than anything else so well worth the stay!

Nice place with cute staff
Reviewed By Kris_ToorValue for money - definitely, it is the cheapest place in Hikkaduwa, that I managed to find. Location isn't the best, as the beach is around 10 mins walking, ok, it doesn't seem like a great migration but in Hikkaduwa you can get many front beach properties for slightly higher place. If you are there for longer you might enjoy the fact that the location as it is far from the main road is quite peaceful, at the same time the only dinning places nearby are those that other guesthouses or hostels offer. To reach nicer beach without so much boat and city pollution it is still around 20 mins walk. Cleanliness no major problem with that, maybe only the ants, but they are everywhere. Staff cute auntie that made sure that I left the hostel with my breakfast and prepared for me even after the breakfast time and check out time. They were very helpful and encouraged me to stay longer, but I wanted to continue journey south. Facilities, it is a simple home made to be a hostel.

Authentic, homely experience
Reviewed By StelllsI loved this place. A great place to recharge. Lalana looked after everybody so well from the freshly cooked breakfast to everything else she can possibly do for you. Not the newest or smartest of buildings but, for me, much more important was the little bit of authentic Sri Lanka and the peace and quiet just far enough away from the manic main drag of the beachfront.

Super clean and comfortable (new white bed sheet, free coffee and tea, private acces from the side and parking... The plus : WiFi is working great.... Highly recommend !

Reviewed By BCtravels20My partner and I were driving by Bluefin when we suddenly got a flat tire. The owner of the hostel literally came and rescued us. Without asking for anything in return he selflessly changed our tired. We even offered him money as a thank you and he turned it down! If he would do that for total strangers, I can't imagine how well he would treat his guests. While we didn't stay their ourselves (we had accom booked in Galle), I would highly recommend this gracious place.
