Very good location! The hostel is right in front of Kawaguchiko Station and close to amenities. Convenient stores, restaurants, shopping places were just within walking distance. You'll be able to see the beautiful Mount Fuji on a good day too! Very helpful and hospitable owners. We were allowed to leave our luggages/backpacks at the hostel when we went for our climb at no extra fee. Some of us were leaving for Tokyo right after our descend and our shower fee at the hostel was discounted. Loved the Japanese breakfast. Recommended for solo travellers as well as groups! Note: The Japanese are very particular about footwear and where you place them! So, be respectful, watch and learn from the locals, hostel owners and their staff on where they place their shoes/boots, and where they put on those sandals that they provide for you. When in doubt, just ask!?

Charming and friendly stay

Reviewed By EmilieSaves

We've stayed at Sakura last week for 2 nights and we had an amazing time. The owner and his wife are very friendly, always willing to help. They did recommend a trekking trail, drove us to the start of the trail and gave us a map to help us find our way. The trail is really out of beaten tracks, we were alone all the way with beautiful views on Fuji Mountain. The guesthouse has good value set dinner and breakfast with local products. The private onsen is a treat after a day out walking/on the bicycle. The room had a panoramic view on Fuji Mountain.

Lovely host!

Reviewed By 524lewiss

We stayed here for two nights (was meant to be three but missed one due to travel complications). It had great facilities - onsen, jacuzzi, sauna, free coffee, own room for dinner (if bringing your own). Yoshi was a great host and played us some music in the evening, and even gave us some gifts when we checked out. Although it's slightly out of town, it's only a 20 minute bus ride/50 minute scenic walk from Kawaguchiko train stop. Would thoroughly recommend this place! We even got a lift back to the station when we were leaving.

Best hosts !

Reviewed By deepalidas2015

The hosts Yoshiaki and Yukadi are a very warm and helpful couple. The room is big with an ensuite bathroom, has very pleasing interiors and everything in it as promised. The hosts insisted on carrying our bags to our room on the 1st floor(steep stairs). Tips for travellers who would like to book the place 1) Take the red line bus (380 yen pp) and get off at the musical forest museum. It is a 5 to 7 min walk from there. Please ask your hosts to give you detailed instructions on how to get there. 2)They take cash only for the booking payment. A tip for the hosts- Since you have provided an electric kettle it will be helpful to have fair sized cups for tea/coffee in the room.

Historical

Historical hotel, very interesting architecture and beautiful gardens and landscaping. Very good dining in the Turquoise Room. Staff helpful and courteous. That being said, the plumbing is a problem. We stayed on the 2nd floor. During my shower, water flow completely stopped. We both ended up taking a pitcher of water from the sink into the shower to rinse shampoo from our hair. The staff gave a $40 refund for our trouble.

Exceptional hosts

Reviewed By Calum_R1

Booked a 2 night stay last minute with my partner as we were keen to visit lake kawaguchico and the surrounding area and get lovely views of Mt Fuji. This was the best descision We made during our entire trip to Japan. Our hosts (Ken & Rie) were nothing short of exceptional. We were given great advice every day on the best things to do/see and every effort was made to make us feel at home. The cats that wander around freely are adorable! We are Scottish so thought the local food wouldn't be to our taste but were pleasantly surprised. Every meal we had was healthy and delicious, ranging from local rainbow trout to steak! Ended up staying an extra night we both enjoyed the place so much and even had a wee dram of Japanese whisky with our hosts on our last night. Hope to be back again some day!
